It was ok. We homeschool and are thankful to God for it. Could you try again to have shows about homeschoolers? Maybe not on the concept of helping public schoolers understand them better but a show for them.About things they face/do. Not just always wanting to go to public school either. Interview present day homeschoolers to make the show pertinent. Thanks.

  • Lydia on April 9th, 2009 - 9:31pm

I am homeschooled to and sometimes I think how it would be different to go to school and be around so many different kids I also have had my wanting to go to school lowered because of this. I am thankful were I am. Could you also maybe have a charater who is homeschooled and shares our troubles and difficulties? It would be really cool because there are times when we do diffrent things and how fast or slow at school or how late or early we finish. Keep up the good work.Love ya, Lydia

  • Tori on April 9th, 2009 - 11:04pm

I’m homeschooled, and I soooo agree with Mary :).

  • Lindsey S. on April 10th, 2009 - 12:04pm

I, along with my brother and sister are also homeschooled, and I am soooo glad that you did not put this episode in a album. To me it was a little offensive because us homeschoolers are not like that at all. True, most of us have never been to public school, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know anything about it. I totally agree with both Mary and Lydia, it would be really great for the producers to have a family that are homeschooled so everyone can know what it means to be a homeschooler.

  • Mercy on April 10th, 2009 - 5:49pm

I am homeschooled and I think Lydia is right!!

  • Anthony on April 11th, 2009 - 9:22pm

it so cool i agree with lyndia

  • Sarah on April 12th, 2009 - 12:04am

i agree with these girls. but i do LOVE this radio drama!i think i have listened to pretty much ALL of them. It is sad though because i rarely get to hear one i haven’t heard before! :) but i would LOVE to see you guys talk with a ton of home school families and give us more credit or just not make us look like us kids don’t have a CLUE about the world…Because that is not how we are! and it just makes me sad to think some people think that is how sheltered we are….(BUT I DO LOVE THE SHOW :D)

  • SARAH on April 12th, 2009 - 12:08am

And i really just want to get my point across that i am in NO way mad or angry at adventures in odyssey. They are truly remarkable people to put this much time into helping kids like me to grow closer to God and help us learn things that we never knew before! :) so please by all means… i love this show and i am not putting it down in any way! :) God bless, Sarah

  • Kim on April 12th, 2009 - 12:26pm

I soooo agree with Mary and Lydia

  • HANNAH on April 13th, 2009 - 10:15am

I am homeschooled and so are my brother and sister.
AND SOME TIMES I WISH I MAY GO TO A SCHOOL.
I LISTEN TO ODYSSEY ALMOIST EVERY DAY!

    GOD BLESS
    DOMINQUE

  • KASSI on April 13th, 2009 - 10:46am

I am “homeschooled through highschool” and I ALL WAYS get comments like “oh you must hate it – of course you don’t have any friends!” people allways think that we never have any fun, or that we get to stay in our pyjamas all day and envy us. well to all those poor confused people out there – WE’RE NORMAL!!!!!!!!
I liked that the show wasen’t condemming us but showing the “other side” the truth!

Thank’s to odyssey for ALL the great shows!!!
    God bless!
    ~Kassi

  • Jessica on April 13th, 2009 - 11:20am

Aww, just because this was a flop doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try again! I was homeschooled myself and have listened to Adventures in Odyssey since the beginning. I am now homeschooling my own kids!

Surely, with a little research, you can come up with a more accurate picture of homeschoolers. Considering the multitude of homeschooled listeners I’m sure you would have many offers of assistance in this.

  • Sawyer on April 13th, 2009 - 12:30pm

It’s a pretty show, but it does kinda make it seem that homeschoolers (me included) are uptight, kind of antisocial and boring. this is not like us at all. I totally agree with Kassi.
    but I do LOVE odyssey.

  • clh737 on April 13th, 2009 - 1:18pm

I am homeschooled and I agree with Mary and Lydia…

  • melissa on April 13th, 2009 - 7:00pm

I am homeschool and have listened to Odyssey for longer than I can remember. I loved this episode but I think that next time you do a episode about homeschoolers you could do a little more research. For me, being homeschooled just gives me more time out of the house. I am at a riding barn four days a week, gymnastics, church, and 2 youth groups. This ways a really funny episode though!!!!!! You guys are awesome!!!!!! Melissa

  • Lindsey S. on April 14th, 2009 - 11:57am

I wanted to apoligize if I seemed rude or really upset with you guys in my past comment. The show did have some positive parts so it wasn’t a complete flop. If you decide to update this episode, the only part that needs fixing is the middle part. Please do not give up on doing another episode. I know that a lot of homeschoolers, including myself, would love it if you tried again. Just like Jessica said, you would have a lot more help this time! Remember, when you don’t first suceed, try again!!!

  • stephany on April 14th, 2009 - 3:08pm

I am homeschooled and its awesonme!they werent try to offened any1.AIO is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • heather on April 14th, 2009 - 10:09pm

I’m a homeschooling parent and my whole family listens to Odyssey ALL THE TIME. On an average day we have 2 or 3 Odyssey’s playing somewhere in the house.:) I thought the episode got it mostly wrong but you admited that yourselves. We love the flexiblity of homeschooling and we are one of those families that call our pajamas our school uniform. We lived in Africa for 9 years and loved that we could take our kids on road trips with our school work!

  • LYDIA on April 15th, 2009 - 9:32am

    Hi,
I am wondering why you only have like five podcast when it says you have fourteen I think? I would really enjoy some more! Thanks you and God bless!!!

  • Emily on April 17th, 2009 - 9:23am

I am ten years old and my brother and I are homeschooled. I really liked your episode but I do think that where you learn and who you learn by is just as important as what you learn. My brother and I really like Adventures in Odyssey. I listen on 88.5 WNBW and I wish that you had a daily Adventures there. Thanks so much for your radio programs.

  • melea on April 17th, 2009 - 6:45pm

I’m homeshooled too, and I agree with Sawyer and Kassi….

  • Rebecca on April 17th, 2009 - 8:49pm

hi i liked the program it was really fun but it made sound like homeschooling was abnormal. well still was fun though.

  • aUDREY on April 18th, 2009 - 3:35pm

wow, a lot of people are home-schooled!!!!!!! So am I! I luv home-scholling it is the best! I really liked this Odysees and I learned a whole lot from it!! lol Ya so thank you to connie, Whit, Eugene, and my favorite TOM RILEY!! Thank you guys for all you have tought me through all the Adventures in Odyssey episodes! I know I am not really talking to you but thank you anyway1 ;) And keep on making more and more and more great odysseys because the world needs to know that God loves them!!

  • marKIE on April 18th, 2009 - 11:56pm

I sure hope you try again. We haven’t homeschooled in a few years and I, for one, really do miss it. My 11 year old son listened to the episode and I think it made him miss homeschooling. In public school he’s not able to spend as much time as he’d like on subjects he’s really interested/gifted in. Thanks so much for your commitment to wholesome entertainment. Even my 23, 20 & 18 year old sons still like AIO! Keep it up. God bless you!

  • jacque on April 19th, 2009 - 6:29pm

well, I just want to say something about adventures in oddessy. I LOVE it. I listen to it every night. (Me and My brother.) We don’t have them all but they’re awsome. Thanks for adventures in oddessy.

  • Ethan on April 20th, 2009 - 1:06am

its okay but you make the mom not really teach all she wanted to do was talk, my mom always made me finish all of my work. in the morning all 5 of us kids would be watching TV and are mom would walk in at 8 and say time for cool, and we would all go nooooooooooo. i think it would be great if you made some home school characters on the show as long as you make the mom(Or dad) more strict about learning.
keep up the odyssey’s B/c i’m sure ill be listening till im at least 100(i love Odyssey)

  • AIOROXXMYSOX on April 20th, 2009 - 7:28pm

I am not home schooled but i do feel like The Homeschoolers were posted in not the best way possible so i do understand your reasoning at the beginning…:)

  • lu on April 21st, 2009 - 5:38pm

Homeschoolers are smart and educated people… I don’t think “You Go to School Where?” makes them sound that way. Thanks to Odyssey for trying! Keep up the good work!

  • Becca on April 21st, 2009 - 6:33pm

OKAy, im NOT homeschooled, but some of my BFF’s are, and i listened to this with them and we were talking about the episode and they were saying that they SOMETIMES wanna go to public school, but then other times i’ll tell them about some of the problems i’m having and just general public school problems and then we’ll all joke around and they’ll banter and be like: ” OHHHH you public school kids!” But they agree with some of the earlier comments. In general, we liked it! :p

  • lYDIA on April 24th, 2009 - 12:48pm

    I HOMESCHOOL AND IT’S SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO………….. FUN I LOVE IT

  • Libby on April 24th, 2009 - 7:05pm

I am HOMESCHOOLED and I love it as much as I love my MOMMY that teaches me. I listen Adventures in Odyssey almost everyday. I think I am attached to it. Ha Ha ya I love Adventures in Odyssey and I love being HOMESCHOOLED. I thank GOD that my mom does that. We went to the circus today and I think that if I where to be at school we would of not been able to go so I am glad that I am HOMESCHOOLED and all my brothers are HOMESCHOOLED to so we all listen to Adventures in Odyssey

    Thanks:)

  • tyce on April 24th, 2009 - 8:31pm

Hi I am 5 years old and my sister is writing this and her name is Libby. I really like being homeschooled. I love Adventures in Odyssey. He said he likes MR. Whitaker the best but he is in love with Connie :) :) :) :) Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Thanks

  • k999 on April 25th, 2009 - 3:23pm

Im homeschooled too. I din’t now there were that many of us in the world. And I agree with every-one about “you go to school ware,” but I can still see why people think that about us. Keep up the greet work! my whole family love’s AIO!

  • Berthany on April 27th, 2009 - 4:40pm

hi i luv odyssey but i think maybe u should try again with a homeschooled character if it is really “trial & eror thanks Berthany

  • Berthany on April 27th, 2009 - 5:24pm

hi again i think u should try and do a remake of this show only instead of elemantry school do middle school. it would be fun! maybe a food fight for the kid who swiches to public school! lol! and definitely more exitement!:)
    Berthany

  • elisabeth on April 28th, 2009 - 10:53am

I’m homeschooled and I thought this episode was interesting. I felt that if I went to public school I might have a similar reaction, except that I know about public schools cause i have many friends who go to public school. I think that as a homeschooler you have more experiences. Being homeschooled has allowed me to travel with my mom on trips. I feel like this episode in some ways paints a wrong picture of what homeschoolers are really like. Anyway I did enjoy listening to the episode! AIO roc

  • elise on April 29th, 2009 - 9:37am

I am homeschooled and i liked this episode, it is nothing like what i do at home but it was funny. I hope in spite of this flop you try again.I am a huge fan, i listen to an album a day and am ALWAYS on the website, i even listen to AIO during my math!!!I used to want to go to a public school, but now i am thankful for being taught my a christian perspective, keep up the good work!!
    God Bless,
    Elise

  • GORGE on April 30th, 2009 - 6:47am

i LOVE THIS EPISODE SO MUCH

  • lacey on April 30th, 2009 - 10:47am

hi i am homeschooled and i agree with Elisabeth.

  • mercy on May 1st, 2009 - 10:23am

For me,homeschooling is a very big blessing from God. I could not imagine being taught by anyone other than my mom. But I kinda feel sorry for all the public-schooled kids I know because some of them are in 8th grade & A 6th grader (me) is smarter then them! I think it’s kinda sad!!!! How much do you learn in a public school?? I think (in a way) homeschoolers get a better education than kids who are in a public school.

  • trace on May 1st, 2009 - 1:39pm

    sweet

  • Holly h. on May 1st, 2009 - 4:13pm

I am homeschooled, and i find this kind of offensive, sure we might get to have our parents for teachers, but this sometimes just adds to pressure. I go to a co-op, and have homework from that, and even though i have a week to do it, that just means the teachers give us more! And i skipped 2 grades, so my teachers at co-op expect me to be smarter that the other kids my age! But hey, I still love oddyssey, and nothing will ever change that!! :D

  • BETHANN on May 2nd, 2009 - 9:01pm

I really think you could do somemore GREAT homeschool episodes. Just do a little more research. It did sort of make it sound like us homeschoolers didn’t do anything but talk, and go on field trips. But, I think y’all have a great start, and really should do somemore. I agree with some of the others, I’m sure that you could get a lot of help from homeschoolers! Homeschooling is AWSOME! I love AIO! Thanks for all the hard work!

  • Lizzy on May 3rd, 2009 - 3:29pm

I can see why this episode was never released. It didn’t portray us home schooled kids very well. I think it was cool that AIO tried but I didn’t like where the producer said they won’t bring in home schooled families because public school kids might get offended. We don’t get offended when they have AIO episodes in the school. So they shouldn’t be afraid to have a home schooled family. I think you guys should introduce a home schooled family. I mean you can see how many of us there are.

  • ABBY on May 3rd, 2009 - 6:19pm

I think it is great that Odyssey did an episode about homeschooling. I think it was one of their first. More people need to not stereotype homeschooling so much, and this episode really brought out that being home schooled doesn’t mean people are weird and isolated from the rest of the world, it just means that they learn better at home than they would at a public school with lots of other kids.

  • simone on May 4th, 2009 - 2:58pm

I’m homeschooled, and I have been since 1st grade (I’m now in 7th). I really like it, and I’m in a homeschoole theater group and co-op. My tap teacher says homescholers are some of the nicest and MOST sociable people she’s ever met! So when people say homeschoolers have no friends or whatever, they just don’t know the truth. =]

    In Him,
    ~Simone ?
    P.S. I LOVE ODYSSEY!!!

  • Kasey on May 4th, 2009 - 8:01pm

I’m homeschooled and enjoy it. I liked the show, but like many of the other girls, I think you were right in saying that it isn’t a great view of homeschools. I know that there are those who “homeschool”, but don’t really do school, so I see why there is some confusion. But I really wish you would try again by interviewing good christian homeschoolers and getting more facts! Because all us homeschoolers really do school. I’m going through summer just to make up, and I don’t get away with it. GB!

  • Melinda on May 4th, 2009 - 10:15pm

There are certainly pros & cons to being attending homeschool or public school. I DO agree that this episode didn’t put either in a good light, and that it’s obvious that the writer hadn’t really experienced homeschool – but at least it opened a discussion on something that wasn’t as mainstream when the episode first aired as it is now… Using updated homeschool ideas (like they did with Aubrey) would help.

  • tRAE on May 5th, 2009 - 9:20pm

Hi well i like being homeschooled i used to be homeschooled. But my mom doesnt want to anymore I think that homeschoolers are cool they still can have friends after theyre done with there work. By the way i love odyssey.

  • Elijah on May 5th, 2009 - 10:43pm

    Well,
Im Lydias Brother Elijah and I am Homeschooled also and I beleive that its horrible what is happening in schools today bulliying has turned into gunfights.Bullies have now moved onto the Internet and send life destroying things to their classmates and thats why me and lydia are homeschooled and very limited to where we can go on the Internet and only go to Christan Websites like this one and that is what I think about Homeschooling let me know what you think about my Comment. Thanks!

  • paige on May 5th, 2009 - 11:14pm

I have never been in public school and I have been always been a homeschooler. I liked this episode alot. I love doing school at home!! I think that it would be like, SO COOL if adventures in odyessy had a homeschool family.I wish that you guys did. I think that other people should know how neat it is to be homeschooled. Trust me, being homeschooled is AWESOME!

  • Elon on May 6th, 2009 - 12:29pm

This episode is cool but some homeschoolers do know about public school. BUT I STILL LOVE THIS EPISODE!!!!!
    GO ODYSSEY!!!!!!

  • Caleb on May 7th, 2009 - 2:13pm

I am homeschooled and I do think that they could have made the homeschoolers a little bit smarter. GO HOMESCHOOL!!!

  • Elisabeth on May 8th, 2009 - 11:10am

Hey…I posted a comment like 2 weeks ago. I just wanted to say that I think you should find a couple good Christian homeschoolers and ask them about their life. Then take there answers and find a way to come up with a good episode on life as a homeschooler. I love being homeschooled and would love to hear a homeschool family on the show…Please?

  • mb on May 8th, 2009 - 1:08pm

Allo! I’m actually homeschooled right now.
I love AIO but I don’t really like how the home schooled girl is portrayed…but it was a lovely idea!

  • Laura-Grace on May 8th, 2009 - 10:52pm

I have been homeschooled all my life and I am graduating this year May 16! I found nothing offensive about this episode, but I think it would be AWESOME if you could make a new show about homeschooling, because now so many more people know what homeschooling is all about. I am so blessed to have been taught by my mom, who is a wonderful christian lady. I believe that if I hadnt of been homeschooled, I wouldnt have a close relationship with Christ like I have now. I am really going to miss it

  • odyssey 101 on May 10th, 2009 - 9:41am

hey odyssey fan you go to the free episodes and then you press the click to play thing and then the guys talk about stuff like new episodes and then they do the episodes

  • CG on May 10th, 2009 - 4:11pm

im not homeschooled, and i thought this episode gave me more of an appreciation for what homeschool parents have to do :) if i were a homeschooler, i really don’t know what i would of felt about this one

  • firestar on May 11th, 2009 - 6:27am

This is AWSOME! This is great because I’m going to be homeschool soon next year.

  • Lindsey S. on May 11th, 2009 - 1:43pm

Firestar, please don’t think that all that you heard on this episode is whats going to happen when you start homeschool next year. Homeschoolers don’t get off easy. We have to work just as hard as Public schoolers. But homeschooling is great, and I know that you are really going to love it. Take it from somebody who has been homeschooled for 11 years!!! It’s such a blessing!

  • Cassie on May 11th, 2009 - 7:23pm

I think that homeschoolers are missunderstood by non-home educators. They think that we are a bunch of families with at least 6 kids each (LOL) who stay at home all day and do light schoolwork. Well, I am homeschooled along w/ my 5 other brothers and sisters, and I can tell you We Are NOT Like That At ALL! Not that I think this AIO made that point at all!! I’m just saying that just because we stay at home doesn’t mean we aren’t socialized (I get this question all the time) cont.

  • Cassie on May 11th, 2009 - 7:26pm

or that we are a bunch of people who go to the shopping center as a field trip! :) I know a LOT of families that homeschool in Mississippi who are some of the greatest people ever!
I would also like to say that I LOVE AIO!! I will listen for as long as I can! Thank you for making some good wholesome entertainment!! :)

  • xobeo on May 14th, 2009 - 9:16am

FIRESTAR, Don’t think that homeschoolers get off on school a lot or something….our mom prints us a weekly schedule of all our subjects, the time we are supposed to do them, and our daily chores. You’re going to love having a more flexible school year though. This way you can keep on going through the summer (or not :))and get a grade ahead like my brother did. You’ll LOVE Homeschooling though!

  • xobeo on May 14th, 2009 - 9:17am

P.S. I’ve been hoemschooling for almost 13 years. AND LOVE IT!

I have been homeschooled ever since i was born. I have never wanted to go to public school. This wasn’t the best oddessy ever made but it wasn’t to bad. Wow i wish we did feild trips that often.

  • k on May 20th, 2009 - 11:32am

hey, i also am homeschooled but have only been for two years and am loving it! i have been in public school and a private school so i know what it is like. Homeschool is great not only because we get to stay in PJ’s all day but we get to learn about God in a ciriculum that doesn’t talk about evolution! and to bring to everyone’s memory they did bring a homeschool family to odyssey Aubrey and Bethany Shepard where homeschooled remeber.lol. and i see that there are a lot of homeschoolers. love AIO

  • k on May 20th, 2009 - 11:35am

Sorry this so long but i just want to let odyssey to know that i am there #1 fan i have listen since the womb and i am not kidding. i love Odyssey i am an addict. lol. but yeah, keep up the good work you guys. YOUR #1 FAN.

  • Karen on May 21st, 2009 - 10:00am

I’m a high school homeschool student and been homeschooled all my life!!! :) But ya the show didn’t really show what a homeschooler was really like, I play three instruments, and do lost of other things. My brothers were all homeschooled too and the ones that went to collage were at the top of their classes when the graduated. One of them was even valedictorian. Homeschooling is great!!! I think y’all should interview some of us homeschoolers and make a show for homeschoolers.

  • BeccA on May 22nd, 2009 - 8:47pm

I have been homeschooled for my whole life,(twelve yrs.) and I still like the episode, tho i agree that we are not as dumb as that.I think you should try another attempt at a homeschool episode. P.S, I heart oddysey, and are your #1 Fan! No kidding!!

Iam home schooled also.wow!I did not think that so many pepole homeschool and listen to odesey! your #1fan Rebecca Flowers

  • eleaya on May 27th, 2009 - 11:42am

i’am home schooled and i didn’t have a problem with it. i also have been to a public school, and it portrayed public schools the same.

  • Kirsty on May 27th, 2009 - 12:31pm

I know very little about homeschooling, but it certainly didn’t sound very realistic! However, the producers realise that.

It’s much harder to write about homeschools than schools – all schools are similar(ish), whereas there will be as many kinds of homeschooling as there are parents and children. So however they portrayed it, someone would say “it’s not like that”

I think the best thing is to have a few characters who just happen to be homeschooled – not the theme of an episode.

  • Kirsty on May 27th, 2009 - 12:35pm

Btw – however you are educated, make sure you don’t look down on others who are educated differently. There are advantages in both ways.

  • Marta on May 27th, 2009 - 3:25pm

I’m homeschooled and my parents are missionaries in Africa. I love AIO! It means a lot to me for you to do this every day. I feel like this is my only connection to America. I love you guys and hope you put out more AIO every day! :)

  • Elisabeth on May 28th, 2009 - 8:27am

Hi, I keep coming on here to see what other people are saying. O hey Marta, my parents were missionaries in Africa! We were there in 2001. Where are you in Africa? We were in Kenya. Anyway…Odyssey please try again.

  • Hannah on May 28th, 2009 - 10:43am

hey odyssey i am homeschooled!and i love this radio drama i have heard ALL of them! this one did sound like that it was making homeschoolers a little lazy! I’m homeschooled and i am in eighth grade (i am 14) and i am ahead of most kids that go to public school that are my age!! i think that you should try again! and it would be really cool if you interview like 15 homeschooled families!! but you guys are AWASOME!! i got some of my middleschool friends hooked on it 2! :) we love odyssey!

  • bRITTANY on May 29th, 2009 - 11:25am

It sounds like there is a unanimous request here… please try again!

I graduated from homeschool high school three years ago after attending public, private and homeschools. Overall, I thought the episode was pretty good, except where the little homeschooled girl didn’t know about instruments… literally all homeschoolers I know play *at least* one instrument. ;-) Anyway, I thought it was pretty good and would love to see (hear!) more homeschoolers in the episodes!

  • ANG on May 29th, 2009 - 6:25pm

I’m homeschooled also. And I’m so glad I listened to this podcast. This is awesome :D

  • kris on May 30th, 2009 - 1:24pm

this episode was really great i cants see y it was never released all i know is that this radio drama is the best and my family and i look foward to listening to adventures in odyssey

  • Abi on May 30th, 2009 - 3:47pm

I was homeschooled too. From 8 to 17. My parents were missionaries in Africa and we ate and drank odyssey over there. It was the best way of schooling because we moved around a lot. I don’t think the episode was a total flop considering everything.

  • julie on May 31st, 2009 - 2:16pm

I AM HOMESCHOOLED AND I LOVE IT AND I AM 12 I LOVE THIS STORIE I LOVE ALL YOUR STORIES I HAVE LISTEN TO ALL OF THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN KEEP MAKING STORIES AND I HAVE A SISTER AND BROTHER WHO DO HOMESCHOOLED TWO AND I HAVE LOTS OF FRIENDS WHO DO HOMESCHOOLED TWO IT IS SO MUCH FUN

  • Katie on May 31st, 2009 - 8:58pm

I was homeschooled for a semester. Its pretty different from the episode. We don’t have “sharing times” or anything. Sure, you go at your own pace while changing from class to class, and I had a lot of fun lounging on the couch with my bathrobe and stuffed animals. But in some ways it’s a lot harder. It’s kind of frustrating not being able to raise your hand and answer a question or make comments about stuff you know and can’t ask teachers questions. No way is the “best way” to be schooled.

  • Mariah on June 2nd, 2009 - 1:49pm

Hey there! I am also homeschooled along with the 60 others. I agree that this episode didn’t really do a great job of showing what homeschooling is really like. And I unlike most homeschoolers have gotten the chance to go to public school, I went in kindergarten and I even go part time to the middle school here. But I disagree with Katie, in homeschooling, you CAN ask the teacher questions and she can explain things better when there are fewer kids in the class.

  • Gabriela on June 2nd, 2009 - 5:37pm

I am homeschooled and I thought that this episode was not a good example of what homeschoolers are really like. I have tons of friends and our family goes lots of places. I definately know about public school unlike Esther in the episode. thanks

  • Anikin on June 2nd, 2009 - 5:53pm

That episode was totally unreal! I`m a home schooler and I know lots of stuff!!
I think that episode was pretty offensive to most home schooler, and that most home schooled people that posted mesages would agree.
I think adventures in odyssy is not that bad.

    HOME SCHOOLING IS FUN!

  • valerie on June 4th, 2009 - 1:10pm

It was great. I have been Home schooled for as long as I have lived. Sometimes I want to see what a “building school”(a school that is not my home) is like. Thank you for showing this episode.

  • JAYSON on June 17th, 2009 - 12:05pm

I AM HOME SCHOOLED AND I LIKE IT A LOT. AND I WOULD RELAY LIKE TO TRY OUT PUBLIC SCHOOL!

  • M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 6:54am

I must say that homeschooling is not what most people think it is! Some people think we stay at home and play or do something, but we don’t! I must agree with Gabriela and others. IT DOESN’T PORTRAY HOMESCHOOLERS VERY WELL! I am homeschooled and will be through highschool and this doesn’t show what we do very well! We work just as hard as any other kid! It isn’t all layed back and just doing as we please! Again, we work as hard as any public schooled kid! Beside these things, it was a good show

  • M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 6:56am

I also agree with anikin!! Homeschooling is AWESOME!

  • M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 6:58am

Camas- I want you to know that this episode does not show you what a homeschool is like!!

  • M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 7:06am

I must agree with Mariah and disagree with Katie. Katie may have been allowed to sit on the couch in a bathrobe with stuffed animals, but I’m not and alot of my HOMESCHOOLED friends don’t either!!! Also, I can ask my ‘teacher’/Mom, as many questions as I need to really understand what I’m learning!

  • M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 7:16am

so sorry for putting in so many comments, but I keep seeing comment that I must say something about! The person who put their name as “K” I want to say something. My mom makes us get dressed and make our beds before breakfast(which is around 7:30)We don’t stay in our PJ’s! I agree, though, with your comment about the curiculum and evolution! I love that too!!! I’m learning about Uniformitarianism and Catastrophism in my science and it has alot to do with it!

sorry, Steph, but I must disagree- WHOLE-HEARTEDLY!!!!!

  • M in Co. on June 20th, 2009 - 6:24am

How does Home schooling work? Is it hard not having anyone to talk to? Do you have any friends? I have never been interested in home schooling because it sounded kinda lame. But i guess some kids actually enjoy it so it must be kinda cool?

  • Cassidy on June 20th, 2009 - 10:07am

Home schooling sounds really boring. Do you really just sit in your PJ’s all day hanging out with your brothers and sisters? Do you have friends apart from your Siblings? Let me know

  • dianne on June 20th, 2009 - 10:08am

  • M IN cO. on June 22nd, 2009 - 4:49pm

Diane, Cassidy, and Anilese: I’m sorry you all feel that way! IT IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK!!! We (atleast in my family and the 10+ homeschool families I know!) do not just ‘sit around in our PJ’s’. It is saddenning that people think that why. It’s definetely NOT boring or lame! We have alot of people to talk to. My homeschool group has a ‘Presentation Day’ every month where kids can come up and give a presentation on something they’ve learned or something. It is not ‘as bad as it sounds’. To me, it

  • Natalie on June 23rd, 2009 - 6:48pm

HOMESCHOOLING ROCKS! I am homeschooled along with my two brothers. And we DO NOT just sit around in our pajamas all day. And I belong to a homeschool group so I have lots of friends that we get together with all the time! I like to homeschool because it is always exiting and its NOT BORING. It is the most fun thing in the whole world! And I dont know why some people think it sounds boring or lame. Because it is the best school you can go to in the whole world!!! I LOVE HOMESCHOOLING!

  • M IN cO. on June 24th, 2009 - 2:14pm

doesn’t have anything that sounds ‘bad’.
Grace: I have been homeschooled all my life. I am so ‘passionate’ about it because I can learn about God in school, and I can learn about Creation correctly. Also, I can really talk to my Mom about a subject that I’m having trouble with until I really understand it. I want people to know that homeschoolers learn just as much as public-schoolers do.

  • debs on June 25th, 2009 - 1:41am

great episode, i love home school!

  • Alexandria on June 26th, 2009 - 4:34pm

The boy that said I am not Alexandria’s brother really is my brother.Just like Ester I want to see what public school is like.My subjucts are bible reading, math, science, english and litichure. When Ester did not know what the bell is that made homeschoolers look dumb.I know what the bell is.I am homeschooled.

  • samantha on June 27th, 2009 - 7:13am

You go to school were isin’t my favorite but is still good!! i am home schooled too

  • Justin S. on June 28th, 2009 - 8:56am

I was homeschooled for 5 years, and I agree that this episode doesn’t truely capture homeschooling. When my sister and I were homeschooled, we had to start at a specific time, do all our work, be dressed, and in general, we had to keep to rules that most schools have.
And I like the mom’s comment in the episode, “We don’t offend easily.” I met many people in my new school who thought that homeschoolers were anti-social, which is untrue.

  • lad on June 28th, 2009 - 11:26am

Homeschooling is great and I have tons and tons of firends!! And I do tons of school!

  • Hosanna on June 28th, 2009 - 1:01pm

I totally think AIO should make more episodes on homeschoolers. There are a lot of homeschoolers out there and i don’t think it’s right that you guys only do public school kids. but other than that i LOVE Adventures in Odyssey!!!! I’ve been listening to it for years!! Keep up the great work!

    p.s. i’m homeschooled and i LOVE it!!!!!!

  • trish on June 28th, 2009 - 1:12pm

Obviously, this episode did not portray the homeschooling family accurately – BUT, kudos on the Shepard family episodes for trying to fix this problem. I always appreciate how Aubrey and Bethany interact with their parents, and with public school kids; I think it is much more accurate… Does Aubrey still go to public school, or did her parents take her out? I know that she was put in public school during the novacom saga… not sure if she still is…

  • Mel on June 29th, 2009 - 8:35am

I liked the show, but I want you to do another one on how homeschooling is fun!! We work on our own and if we need help we ask for it. I try to get done before lunch. And in the show she did school all day. I didn’t think it was exactly like a homeschooling family. I LOVE AIO and I hope you get new ones out soon!!

  • jacob on June 29th, 2009 - 10:29am

I wish my parents would listen to this episode

  • Carter on June 29th, 2009 - 11:13am

I’m So glad that my home school family isn’t like that. Thanks for not putting this episode in an album. I’ve been home schooled for nine years and my experience is NOTHING like that.

  • Carter on June 30th, 2009 - 3:14pm

By the way, How Do You Download This Episode?

  • M on June 30th, 2009 - 5:31pm

  • Elon on June 30th, 2009 - 6:06pm

Homeschooling is better than public school since you won’t pick up as many bad things. I get to be home schooled through high school but it will be online i think.

  • Rachel on July 2nd, 2009 - 1:47pm

I loved that Episode. I can’t say that I have never thought something else would be better. I was home schooled for more then five years. But now i am in a christion shool. at first it was not what i expected but now it is a lot better. I loved it when roben got that cat from the tree. If one of our cats got stuck in a tree it would be so sad. We have too cats jessie and chase. jessie has been with us for more then six years. Chase has been with us for around five years. We love them both.

    =P

  • Emily on July 3rd, 2009 - 4:13pm

I already wrote in this blog but I want to say that Homeschoolers have a better CAT and ACT average. I agerr with Elon,Carter and Mel. WE DO NOT STAY IN OUR PAJAMAS ALL DAY AND WE HAVE GOTTEN DONE BEFORE 11:00 and once we get our workdone we are Done. Next time that you make a homeschooling episode get a homeschooler to help you with it. Then it will turn out a lot better. Thanks I know 5+ homeschool familyes and they agree with me lol Emily

I have been home schooled and i loved it sooo much, but now i go to school and i get kind of sick of the same subjects.
i dont think this episode was offenseve at all!!! i loved it and i have it on my ipod 24/7!
    !! keep it up AIO!!!
    debs oxoxxox :) :D :) :D :) :D :O

  • Amber on July 6th, 2009 - 11:12am

Most of my education has been through homeschool. The main problem with the episode is Robyn’s father saying those wrong comments about homeschool. Like others said you should introduce a homeschool family into Odyssey. And have them interact with the other children of Odyssey. Like another person said I am sure you will be able to get homeschoolers to help you with information on how we interact with other people and have problems of our own.

  • Mercy on July 6th, 2009 - 11:27am

THANK YOU FOR TELLING THE TRUTH EMILY!! what you said is pretty close to the way my homeschool day runs!!

  • mi n co on July 7th, 2009 - 8:44am

    i love home school.

  • M in Co. on July 8th, 2009 - 3:38pm

I would like to say that whoever put their name as, MI N CO, I didn’t see any other comments with that name, so I think you were trying to say something in my name, which is M IN CO, not MI N CO. I am really hoping however, that my assumption is not true, but if it is, I am really disappointed that someone would do this.

  • M in Co. on July 10th, 2009 - 9:13am

The one who put there name as MI N CO, is 3 comments above this one. I know it is hard to see the difference in name, but there is a difference and I believe someone was trying to make it look as though I took back my previous comments. I must tell you I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT take back my previous comments and I am still VERY proud to be a homeschooler!

  • Ashlyn on July 10th, 2009 - 1:14pm

I have been home-schooled my whole life. It gets REALLY ANNOYING when people think that home-school kids don’t do anything at all. Yeah, we can do school in our PJ’s, and we get to sleep in a little later, but we work just as hard, if not harder than, the kids that go to public or private school. I learn the same things that other kids do, just in a different way. There are ups and downs to home-schooling and public/private school.
BTW, wearing PJ’s doesn’t affect what we learn:)

  • Palj on July 11th, 2009 - 2:12pm

I wish you hadn’t made the homeschooled girl seem so ignorant. I’ve only been to a public school once, for two weeks of driver’s education, but I have lots of public school friends and know plenty about it. I also do the same subjects and electives as any other kid, with a rigorous schedule. I would love to see another show about homeschoolers, but I’d like it to be a little more accurate.

  • Kristen on July 19th, 2009 - 9:14pm

My sister and I (who have also never attended a public school) listened to this episode. It was not quite accurate.
#1. Most homeschoolers are not single children.
#2. We are not dumb. We are actually productive! And we know what a bell is!
#3. Some homeschoolers like rigid schedules.
#4. Whit had never met any homeschoolers!?!
#5. I really hope public schools don’t just hand children instruments and tell them to play a scale!

Just some thoughts. Thanks for trying though

  • Christina on July 21st, 2009 - 1:44pm

Hey Mary, Mercy, and Lydia. Guess what? I’m home schooled to! I totally agree! Make episodes about home schooled kids! I LOVE aio!

  • mONIQUE on July 24th, 2009 - 8:55am

Hi, I’m a homeschooling parent of 4 kids. My family loves AIO. You really learn alot. Growing up I wasn’t homeschooled, but my kids are. So I can look at the picture from both sides. I think that overall yall did a good job on the show. Alot has changed in 20 years. And where back then homeschool wasn’t readily accepted, now it is gaining more ground. I really wish you would try again, with the wealth of info and input available now I think yall could give a better picture of both sides.

  • mONIQUE on July 24th, 2009 - 9:03am

Nothing beats a failure, but a try. TRY AGAIN, for the sake of all the homeschoolers out there listening to your show. If you had a homeschooling family on the show, we could relate to them. I’m not saying put them in every episode, but every now and then. That way people could see the picture from a different angle. I’ll end on this note. Keep up the good work.

  • abraham on July 24th, 2009 - 12:29pm

I’m homeschooled;and we do go on alot field trips.the thing I like best is that I can get snacks whenever I want well sometimes.I wonder how it feels to be in a public school?

  • lad on July 26th, 2009 - 6:18am

The reason I think Whit had never meet a homeschooler was because this was made in the eighties and not many poeple were homeschool then.

  • elisabeth on July 28th, 2009 - 11:04am

Cassidy, I have many friends besides my siblings. I sometimes stay in my PJs all day, but not all the time. I only have 2-3 friends who are homeschooled. My other friends think I get it easy, which isn’t true. Of course I do wake up later than most kids. The curriculm I use is really hard. Anyway homeschooling can be hard.

  • Rachel on July 28th, 2009 - 1:12pm

I have been homeschooled my whole life. I am now entering high school, and I will continue to homeschool.
I really enjoy homeschooling. Although a lot of people think homeschoolers don’t do any work, but THAT’S NOT TRUE! Like Elisabeth, my curriculum is really hard. But I still love homeschooling.
THanks so much for having a show about homeschoolers, even if it was a flop! Love you, Odyssey!!

Does anyone know how to get this episode to play? I’m homeschooled, so I was really curious about what it would say. Our computer doesn’t usually play stuff very good, so I don’t know what to do. So far the only thing I have managed to get to play was the preview to Darien’s Rise. On this episode, when I try to play it it won’t let me hit on the ‘click to play’ button. ????????????????? :(
Does anyone else have the same problem???????

  • new hat. on July 31st, 2009 - 2:50pm

Homeschool has made a name fore it’s self, stay in bed, come out when you like in PJ’s, and ya have no friends. But we can change that, other kids think of homeschoolers as the ones in long skirts, full sleeved shirts, and sometimes complete with a dumb stare.
The ones they don’t see are the homeschooled kids that blend in.So speak out!!!! Tell others about homeschooling.

  • codi on July 31st, 2009 - 3:01pm

I am homeschooled, but just like Esther I got a chance to go to public school for one day. I really enjoy being homeschooled but going to public school was lots of fun too.

  • Emily on August 1st, 2009 - 3:31pm

Ok, so I appreaciated that AIO did an episode on homeschooling, but everyone needs to realize that homeschoolers don’t just hang out and get to do fun stuff. I am in a really tough program (where i can get my highschool diploma) and I am “in school” up to 9 hours each day. The work is hard, just like in regular school. I have projects, reports, and midterms just like everyone else. Homeschooling is not just a different way of schooling, sometimes its just doing the work at home.

  • elisabeth on August 3rd, 2009 - 9:10am

Hey everybody…I keep coming on here and I see all the comments and want to reply. lol I felt like I should say that it’s all based on your opinion. I’ve had fights over why I don’t go to public school with a friend who goes to one. We see things a lot differently. She says homeschooling would be boring, and I say I wouldn’t like public school. I point out that she’s never tried homeschooling and may like it. She points out that I might like public school. Anyway it’s all up to YOU.

  • elisabeth on August 3rd, 2009 - 9:14am

“Continued” You might like public school and seeing your friends everyday. Or you might like being homeschooled. I still see my friends a lot…anyway you decide which you like better. I’m trying to be better at not getting in fights over my schooling. Just felt like I should say that.

  • Mercy on August 3rd, 2009 - 11:12am

there are so many people who listen to AIO who are also home-schooled!! It’s really funny!!! But kinda cool!!!

  • Jesse on August 3rd, 2009 - 11:12pm

I am homschooled and i am in highschool i think that we homeschoolers have a point. u make us seem like a we arent normal but we are. but this episode first played in 1989 so the outlook on homeschooling was diffrent back then. so us homeschoolers making a big deal over this is not fair to adventures in odyssey. so if any body has any thing to say i would love to see your comments.
    GOD BLESS, JESSE

  • Mercy on August 6th, 2009 - 1:09pm

    The truth really is:
You never know what home-schooling is like until you are homeschooled.

  • Rachel on August 6th, 2009 - 2:45pm

Ok, part of the cool part about homeschooling is that you may not have as much friends, but most of your friends are all really close friends, instead of just accquaintences.
Also, most of my friends are from my church, so they’re christains. So, no, you don’t get as many witnessing opportunities, but you aren’t in as many awkward situations.

I think it would be cool to swicth with someone that goes to homeschool!! What Robin did that day sounded really fun!!! I would LOVE to go up on a big ladder and rescue a cat from a tree!! It sounds like a cool thing to do!! May God bless you all and keep up your good work making new and exciting Adventures in Odessey!!!

You have to understand that homeschoolers have lives other than school. I been told homeschooling is dumb because you are always stuck at home.It is NOT true!

I have been homeschooled all the way through kindergarten and now I am in high school and still homeschooled..and LOVING it!!I used to think I would like to go to public school, but I changed my mind when I visited one.Oh,and I still have what they call “homework” and I get up early(I never do my school work in my night clothes!Well unless I am sick)and I don’t get finished until about 3:00…so it’s pretty much like public school;then it takes me about an hour or 2 to get my homework done.

  • Vina on August 23rd, 2009 - 11:13am

Oh and by the way, it would be nice to have some homeschooled families in Odyssey!..just need to work on the view point..because, uh, well, the show was nothing like it really is.
Some people used to think I would be sheltered and would not have any friends…well…that is certainly NOT true. I have friends that are homeschooled and friends that are in a public school. Also, I can pretty much strike up a conversation with anyone…so being homeschooled did not hinder me with that.

  • Vina on August 23rd, 2009 - 11:14am

I prefer to get dressed!” So although some homeschoolers might do that;many do not…

I am homeschooled and I just entered my freshman year of highschool. I went to public school until 2nd grade. I am so thankful for the ability to be homeschooled because there is sooo much junk that goes on in public school. I have many homeschool friends that are very smart and I also have many friends that are in public school that are very smart. Yet I am very thankful 2b homeschooled, and I am thankful for all the people that create Christian curriculums for me and my fellow homeschoolers.

  • Vina on August 28th, 2009 - 5:06pm

Yeah, the fact that there is so much trash that takes place in public schools is exactly why I LOVE homeschooling. Although I have never attended a pubic school, my friends have told me how hard it is to go there…especially if you are a Christian.

  • Jenneniah on August 29th, 2009 - 8:48am

I’m homeschooled, but we’re a relaxed homeschooling family. We get up around 9-11(lol) and start after everyone has eaten. I’m 15 and have been homeschooled my whole life, never been in a public school, but I know a lot about them.

  • JC on August 29th, 2009 - 12:20pm

I think that the fact you guys were trying to show a…different side of homeschoolers was pretty cool, BUT I think you kinda went about it the wrong way. WE homeschoolers aren’t like outcasts of society OR some sort of lie abouts who do nothing all day. I think that you SHOULD try making a better episode involving homeschoolers but before you do, be sure to research.

    God Bless,

I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY HOMESCHOOLERS WERE REPRESENTED IN THIS EPISODE. SOME PEOPLE SEEM TO BELIEVE THAT WE DON’T HAVE ANY SOCIAL LIFE AT ALL AND THAT IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF HOW AT LEAST MY FAMILY IS. WE HAVE SO MANY FRIENDS AND WE LOVE TO HAVE EVERYBODY OUT TO PLAY FRISBEE,RIDE ALL OF OUR MOTORCYCLES AND 4WHEELERS ON SOME OF OUR PROPERTY, ETC. Heyy, this is Lynn and I’m homeschooled and in 10th grade. I love Adventures in Odyssey, but this show isn’t really lk how homeschoolers are depicted as though they don’t do anything. (even though sometimes I do stay in my pajamas all day =P)I still work really hard though and do really well. I think that they should have someone who was homeschooled (maybe Jessie’s staff) write an episode. That would be awesome!

I have been homeschooled for all but my sixth grade year and have loved every minute of it. My mom is not at all like the mom in this episode, she makes us do actual school and we don’t have talk times. I think you should make some episodes that have a home schooler and actually consult home schooled kids about them. Have it show their difficulties AND their joys. I would be willing to voice the character or give you helpful information.

It’s amazing how long these posts have kept up.I had been public schooled until this year (grade 11) and I like it. Public school can be rough socially and I did not like learning about evolution in public school. But this year my curriculum is all Christ based and I love it. I couldn’t figure out how to download the episode but I don’t think I want to now that I heard some things. Homeschoolers are smart I knew a girl who was homescooled her whole life she is a grade above what she should be.

  • Connie on September 23rd, 2009 - 11:35am

My brothers and sisters and I are also home schooled. I have to say that this episode was not at all realistic! It seemed like they made the girl look like she did not have to do any work! Only go on fun field trips, I do go on field trips but I also have alot of work. It seems like the episodes are always about kids who go to school. I think that you need to make a new episode about homeschoolers. But first you need to talk to a homeschooler. Thanks! ~In Christ

  • Sammi-kate on September 23rd, 2009 - 3:04pm

I agree with you 100% Connie! it is Fun to be Home-schooled but there is a lot of work to, i love being home-schooled
because you get to spend time with my family, and being able to help my mom when she needs it. I know i wouldn’t be so close to my family if i wasn’t home-schooled. It would be really cool if you could make an episode with home-schooled children.

  • eLISSA on September 26th, 2009 - 8:09pm

I found this to be very ‘off’. I am a home-schooler, and I probably cover more subjects in school than public-schoolers. It was a humorous episode, although the home-schoolers seemed to be portrayed as emotional ‘saps’, lol. I find home-schooling to be more interactive, more intense, and more academically awarding than public-schooling, although this is not always the case. Thanks anyway for the episode! I have always loved Adventures in Odessey!!!

  • eLISSA on September 26th, 2009 - 8:40pm

“Continued” One important thing that this episode missed is the incredible amount of academic achievement that is necessary to excel in home-schooling, because rather than let me ‘pass’ in a subject, my mom will make sure I do my very best. We start school at 8 (in the morning, lol) and I have about three hours of homework a day. However, I play guitar, piano, and I am a high-level figure skater, (double jumps, etc.). I am a complete fashionista and would NEVER wear pj’s all day… EVER! Luv’YA!

I’m homeschooled too and i have never been to a public school in my entire life. But I STILL think they did do it a little rudely. I still have a school that \i send assingments to and teachers. \i wish Odyssey had more homeschool families, the the Shepherds aren’t good examples because Aubrey is rude and it doesn’t show the true benefits of homeschooling.

I just read Connie, she is so right! They did not show it the correct way. I do a lot of work, and it is all approved by proffesional teachers. I have also been in an advanced program quite often

  • JULie on September 28th, 2009 - 3:55pm

They need to do an episode that shows who we really are as homeschoolers, not just an episode of who they think we are.We aren’t just a bunch of un-educated kids.We usually are smarter than them to.

  • Sammi-kate on September 30th, 2009 - 9:30am

    JULIE on September 26th, 2009
How did you guys all get smiley faces?

Well Julie there are lots of faces, here are some ways OK

  • JULie on September 30th, 2009 - 1:53pm

  • JULie on September 30th, 2009 - 1:56pm

ohh,did it wrong …. hmm , wait, what is ‘this’ as u say to push the same time as shift?

  • R.J. on October 1st, 2009 - 8:23am

I am homeschooled as well, and I would love Odyssey to have a homeschooling family! Homeschooler are educated! Sometimes even better than public schooled children! And it much more fun to be homeschooled! No bullies, no mean teachers, well you just have your family :D

I love, being homeschooled, and I agree with Mary, Elissa Julie, and Lydia. So many children are missing out the blessings, of being homeschooled!

Thanks for making such a great show!

    Blessings,
    R.J.

  • z on October 1st, 2009 - 12:34pm

    rj that’s true

  • Sammi-kate on October 1st, 2009 - 1:08pm

R.J i agree with you to! i can’t imagine not being home schooled and not being with my family! i have heard of alot of familys theare (sp?) kids were home schooled and they were ahead of kids in school! :)

  • Sammi-kate on October 1st, 2009 - 1:48pm

Oh sorry Julie you have to do this : and the letters have to be capitalized AKA Caps lock,

I LOVE AIO but just not this one!

    :D :P :?

  • JULie on October 1st, 2009 - 3:27pm

I agree with you Sammi-kate, it would be really weird if I wasn’t homeschooled and not being with my family. But 3 of my brothers and sisters are either in college or graduated from college. I have one sister who is going to college next year. so next year I will only have my mom at home.

  • Trixie on October 2nd, 2009 - 3:05pm

I don’t see what the problem was! What was offending about this episode? I thought it was fairly balanced. I was homeschooled for a long time I am now in highschool and in a public school and I Love it!

  • ryn on October 4th, 2009 - 5:49pm

i like it it wuz cool (^^^)

  • jb on October 5th, 2009 - 7:50am

Tis is my first year doing homeschool. I think it would be cool if you could do one about kids who go to a Co-op. Its a school for homeschoolers.

  • jb on October 5th, 2009 - 7:54am

R.J I think I’d have to disagree with you. I’ve been going to a regular school for all my life and there aren’t necessarely bullies at every school. I like going to a school better because I like to talk with other people.

  • Abrianna on October 5th, 2009 - 12:36pm

I have been home-schooled for four years. I would also enjoy more current episodes about a home-schooled family! Possibly a girl, her older brother, and sister. I also think we are smarter than you portrayed us to be, and we actually do book work!:) We rarely go on field trips or just sit and talk before school. I loved Whit’s idea to write down all they did that day. I thought the chocolate malt parts were funny. I don’t believe it was a flop, but next time maybe do research.:) I LOVE AIO!!!!!!

  • adrianna on October 5th, 2009 - 6:53pm

I love this episode because I just love listening to Odyssey and I love God.

  • JULie on October 7th, 2009 - 6:53pm

Jb, i go to co-op and you can talk to people there to, but i guess i’ve never been to public school, so i don’t no exactly what it’s like

  • Julie on October 8th, 2009 - 12:49pm

I have been homeschooling all my life and I love it! I do not want to go to any other type of school. I enjoy schooling just were I am. At home. You can be with your family, learn about God and creation instead of evolution, and there are many other wonderful things about homeschooling that you could never find in a public school. Its nice to here stories about home homeschoolers, and I wish there were more. I also wish there were families in Odyssey that were homeschooled.

  • Julie on October 8th, 2009 - 12:54pm

I did not write the comment that is above the one that is above this one. Even though it says Julie on it. The funny thing about it is I go to co-op too(Not the same one).

    :D

  • sarah on October 19th, 2009 - 7:48pm

probably no one will read my post becasue It’s way down here. BUt I just wanted to say thanks to Adventures in Oddeyseey for what they do. I like to listen to it when I make dinner. I’m a freshmen this year, and I and my three older sisters are homeschooled. We have had so much fun, and have been each other’s best friends and stuff, since we were together so much. I also wanted to say that I agree with Mary. I think homeschooling is great, and maybe next time you could present as it really is

  • sarah on October 19th, 2009 - 7:48pm

thanks, again. Thanks so much for these great shows to help me in my walk with GOd

  • Laura on October 21st, 2009 - 12:00pm

I’m a home schooler and I’m in high school. I just want to say that lots of people think we homeschoolers can sleep in and all that stuff but it’s not true. I work just as hard as my public and christian school friends. I did’nt like how on the show you made it look like we don’t know anything about public school. It kinda bothers me how people think that. Anyway I LOVE Oddysey either way and have listen to everysingle one and own like half of them. I love you guys!!!

  • shelly on October 28th, 2009 - 12:20pm

I am homeschooled and I absolutely love it! I liked the episode, especialy since homeschooling is not too popular.

  • vicki on October 28th, 2009 - 1:06pm

My mom homeschools me.I really like it. Kids probably think that we get out of school early, that does happen sometimes, but rarely. Also people think that every day is half day that is not true. The words ”snow day” does not exist in our school vocabulary! I think that earnest homeschoolers work just as hard or harder than public schoolers.

  • sara on November 17th, 2009 - 2:23pm

I homeschool to, but I went to public school for kindergarten, grade 2,3,5, and 7. In grade one I went to a private school, and grade 4,6,8 and now grade 9 have been homeschooling years. I have lots of friends who homeschool and who go to public school. All my homeschooling friends including my self have daily schedules that include as much if not somedays more work than is done in public school.

  • sara on November 17th, 2009 - 2:31pm

I also find that when I go to school I am just re-taking what I took the year before if I homeschooled the prior year. I also take online courses as well as just having text books. I prefer homeschooling to public school, because I find I learn more, and have more fun doing it.

  • becca on November 23rd, 2009 - 10:19pm

    Hi AIO,
I am homeschooled along w/ my older sister and 2 younger brothers. I also have a sister who is 1& 1/2. I went to
a christian school my K4,K5,and half of my 1st grade year.
Then I homescooled the rest of that year. (We moved twice
in those 6 months!) Then when we settled down in a house beside the church where my dad felt like
God was calling him to be the pastor, I attended another
    another christian school. (cont.)

  • rocci on December 1st, 2009 - 1:53pm

    go homeschool!

  • beth on December 2nd, 2009 - 5:30pm

I am homeschooled and this episode is not a very good one. Just because we learn differently some times is not a reasone for some people to say we are different. Most of the smartest kids I know are homeschooled. :)

  • ANONYMOUS on December 7th, 2009 - 6:16pm

I agree with — I was in private school for a few years, but in homeschool it is anything but personal one on one with your parent. My mom goes to law class and I learn for myself. A lot of homeschoolers are different, so I think AIO made a wise choice not to put homeschoolers in Odyssey.

  • Fuzz on December 15th, 2009 - 8:33pm

I am home schoold and I know what a bell is and to be onest this was not a good oddesey.

  • madison on December 16th, 2009 - 10:19pm

I love odyssey so much!!! Being home schooled for a few years I don’t think that there is anything wrong with this episode. It just shows that we do things differently. Who says going to a local fire department cant be educational.

    Thanks,
    Maddy

  • Sarah on December 17th, 2009 - 3:12pm

I am home schooled and we are nothing like the girl in this episode was. I certainly know what a bell is. I think that this was not one of Odysey’s best episodes. We have plenty of friends!!!!!!!!!!

  • anna on December 20th, 2009 - 9:37pm

Hey guys I tried todo smily faces but i cant can anyone help me

  • Original joe on December 22nd, 2009 - 12:50pm

Anna, all you have to do is a : (colon) for eyes and things like P for a tongue and ) for a smile, etc. Just experiment. Don’t leave a space in between the : and whatever other mouth.

  • JULie on December 22nd, 2009 - 8:59pm

  • Kristi ana on January 5th, 2010 - 2:14pm

I agree with Mary I come from a family of 7 I have hoeschooled forever and I love it I would never want to go to a public or private school. I don’t have antthing against people who do go to school I’m sure they like it.
One more point is that a lot of homeschooled kids are able to get out and do a lot more then kids who have to go to school.
Keep up the good work we (my family and I) love your shows!

  • Hannah C. on January 5th, 2010 - 7:51pm

i think that episode was a horible example of homeschoolers!
#1. we don’t say stuff like “look at all the people!” when we see a lot of kids
#2. we have seen an instument before, i even play the trombone and piano.
    –hannah C

  • khemenaya on January 18th, 2010 - 7:08pm

I am also homeschooled .I’ve been homeschooled sone kindergarden(now I’m in 7th grade).Me ,my 2 sisters and all 11 of my cousins are all being homeschooled. And homeschoolers are not like Esther in “You go to school where?”I know how to play some instruments( I play guitar & piano),and I know what crowds of kids look like(I’ve been to L.A. County Fair and seen LOTS of kids.)
    And I agree Mary ,lydia . :P

  • katrina on January 30th, 2010 - 6:17pm

I am homeschooled, and personally, I think it’s awesome. This show makes public schoolers assume that we don’t ever do anything. Well, I have a desk, I DO play with big groups of kids, and this show makes Esther seem like she is sort of stupid. Homeschoolers are NOT antisocial and don’t stay home all day! I think Esther acts like she has never heard an orchestra before.

  • Meg on January 31st, 2010 - 6:27pm

I am homeschooled to, and i think that even though we SEEM secluded to the world, we we most certainty are not. we still participate in sports and other things. and we still know about whats going on in the world. We homeschoolers also know how public schools work. I liked the show though, I LOVE Odyssey! and yes, we do get around a lot of other people some times, sometimes hundereds. so we are not awed by the amount.

  • sIERRA on February 2nd, 2010 - 5:16pm

THIS IS MY LIFE AS A HOMESCHOOLER GET UP AT 9-10 EAT DO SCHOOL EAT LUNCH AND WATCH TV THEN DID SCHOOL TILL 2 BECAUSE I GOFTED OFF PLUS I WAS IN MY PJS ALL DAY..NOT SAYING U DO IT BUT NOT EVERYONE DOES HOMESCHOOL LIKE U

BUT MARY IS TOTALLY RIGHT!! YOU GUYS SHOULD GET A HOMESCHOOLERS POINT OF VIEW!
ALSO,JUST CUZ’ ESTERS A HOMESCHOOLER THAT DOESNT MEAN THAT SHE DOESNT KNOW WHAT SOME SPORTS ARE!! BUT OTHER THATN THAT ODYSSEY DID A GREAT JOB!!!

YOU GUYS SHOULD DO MORE EPISODES ON HOMESCHOOLERS!!

    THANKS ODYSSEY
    LOVE ALWAYS
    DAWN!!

  • Ryn on February 17th, 2010 - 2:10pm

I have to say all in all that this episode is rather offending. First of all, it’s not like homeschoolers are so isolated that they never see other kids, learn about sports, or musical instruments. Homeschooling is another way of life; not some sort of prison.
I know that the person who wrote this episode knew nothing about us, but I have to say I am still rather offended.

  • Ryn on February 17th, 2010 - 2:12pm

Oh one more thing! I loved the thing about Andy Serkis at the beginning!

  • Priscilla on February 17th, 2010 - 4:51pm

I’m homeschooled too and I agree with Dawn and Mary, you should do another episode about homeschoolers. On a usual day I start with prayer, then go to math, secondly english, take a break, move on to art, and have lunch. Then we do history, then science, and finally, piano lessons.

  • hannah on February 20th, 2010 - 9:59pm

that was a horrible episode! if our life was like Ester’s we wouldn’t have anything to “talk” about to our mom, and we wouldn’t go on field trips with just two people. When we see a lot of kids we don’t say stuff like “look at all the kids!” we probably have seen way more kids than at the school. Most of us play an instrument, and we wouldn’t say somthing like “they’re all SO beautiful!, I want to play them all!” that’s just cheesy. And we don’t sound like our nose is pinched, we sound normal.

  • Ryn on February 22nd, 2010 - 7:47pm

    Hannah,
you had a lot of the same reasons I had about this episode! It makes homeschoolers look like they don’t do anything or know anything other than what happens at home! And why would homeschoolers not know about instruments or never see big groups of other kids?~Ryn

  • Abbie on February 23rd, 2010 - 12:44pm

i agree with hannah, we sound normal. and if you want to meet one of us too see how we live, you probably alredy met one of us, we don’t have painted on our foreheads “we are homeshcooles!” we look like a normal kid.
Here’s a tip for publicschooles: Don’t think we are some kind of road side atraction, because we are not.
I like AIO but i completly dislike this episode and i am very offended.
    ~ABBIE

  • Ryn on February 23rd, 2010 - 4:13pm

    Abbie,
I agree w/ you! We’re not like, odd or something. Our way of living is a bit unusual, but no way are we some sort of strange attraction people should look at and say, “wow they’re really weird”.
To the public schoolers: please don’t believe that all homeschoolers actually live this way! :) Oh, and btw Focus on the Family, thanks so much for these blogs! It’s really cool to be able to talk w/ other kids!~Ryn

  • jojo on February 28th, 2010 - 3:16pm

    Hey ppls,
I am home schooled and some ppl think that home schoolers are well weird, but I’m not weird!im cool!!! my two older bros are public schooled and me and my younger bro are home schooled (for now at least :)) Just because im home schooled doesn’t mean im isolated! my best friend is public schooled! I wouldnt mind being public schooled either!

  • jojo on February 28th, 2010 - 3:46pm

    1. I’m not lazy
    2. some home schoolers are though (I KNOW SOME!)
    3. I do school 8:00-3:00 and im very athletic so I do lots of sports volleyball 3:15-5:15, basketball 6:00-7:30 and softball 7:30-9:00 all with public schoolers! And they think it would be cool to be home schooled and i think it would be cool to be public schooled though some ppl don’t even know the same facts i do! HOME SCHOOLERS ARE SMART! Public schoolers don’t learn some of the major facts that “we” do!

  • homeschool on March 12th, 2010 - 4:46pm

this is so not how it is we learn every thing real schools do we can double up so the next day is of sleep in read the bible as a subject do it in an hour or two it is a great gift because what i do not git i ask my dad to explain or my mom and the next time i can do it with no problem so this episode is so not ture i can see why you never aired it and please do not again , singed a homeschooler and proud of it

i know a homeschooler and she’s outgoing, i was suprised. i thought she would be really quiet. :)

  • Sienna on May 15th, 2010 - 4:58am

honestly i prefer going to a school. my sister and i both used to do home schooling and it was so boring. I go to a private school now and it is much betta. for me anyway. the only reason i kinda enjoy school is because of friends, and at home your only friends are your family. not that its a bad thing but sometimes you need to hang with different people.

  • Sienna on May 15th, 2010 - 4:59am

and you also need to be really motivated to get up because it is so tempting to just staying in bed.

  • mary on May 16th, 2010 - 6:26pm

I used to be homeschooled and now i am ready for public school. Everybody is different in what they want to do with there life. It doesnt matter what others say but it only matters what God says. I dont understand how people find this episode offensive. I was homeschooled and i did not find it offensive at all. And adventures in odyssey does have episodes about homeschooled families and there problems. I forget what they are called but they have them. So dont be angrey at them
    Thanks:)

  • NOAH on May 19th, 2010 - 3:17pm

I am home schooled and it is nothing like what the show was like. Esther’s mom acted like she was uneducated. I do not like this show. HOME SCHOOLERS ARE SMART! We are regular people to. I find this episode very offensive. Please take it off. There is not that much difference about us.
    TO BE CONTINUED

  • NOAH on May 19th, 2010 - 3:18pm

    CONTINUED FROM UP THERE
If you are making one about how homeschoolers are not smart, do one about how homeschoolers are not smart.

  • NOAH on May 19th, 2010 - 3:19pm

I have to say all in all that this episode is rather offending. First of all, it’s not like homeschoolers are so isolated that they never see other kids, learn about sports, or musical instruments. Homeschooling is another way of life; not some sort of prison.
I know that the person who wrote this episode knew nothing about us, but I have to say I am still rather offended.

  • M In Co on May 25th, 2010 - 3:23pm

Hey again! Good comments you guys! I would like to say again that homeschoolers are not dumb and not all homeschoolers do school in their PJ’s. (I certainly don’t!) I’m in 8th grade, going into 9th and I have been doing school from 9 A.M. to about 4 P.M every day recently. I’m as busy as any public schooled kid. Now, I’m nott trying to hurt anybody! Public schooled kids aren’t better than me or worse, we just go to a different school. I’m not antisocial and I even have public schooled friends!

  • M In Co on May 25th, 2010 - 3:27pm

I just wish that people would think a little more before they jump to conclusions about homeschoolers. I totally agree with Noah. We aren’t isolated or anything like that. And we do know what different sports are! Lots of homeschoolers do them, whether with a homeschool group or, like my brother, through the park and recreation my city has. No one is any better than another, we just are educated differently!

  • bECKY on May 28th, 2010 - 10:02pm

    Hey,
I know you say that this is why you don’t do home school family’s but speeking from a home school opinyon I think you did a good job at the Shepard’s Family!

Oh and I sins I am home schooled I say I go to my last name High School also.

    Hi
i’m homeschooled and i love AIO.
I think people don’t quite understand homeschoolers. Its not at all easy. Ester’s mom was right. it’s not for everyone. It’s hard work and sometimes it’s hard to have your mom/dad as your teacher all the time. Please don’t get me wrong. I love AIO. We’ve listened for a very long time. I thank God for giving us AIO. Thanks.

you should get someone that was homeschooled growing up to rewrite this story because it could be very good and I agree this is not what homeschooling is like. Trust me I am homeschooled!

  • hannah on June 2nd, 2010 - 11:00am

Ester is a horrible example of a homeschooler, thanks for making Aubrey, but it gives homeschoolers a defient reputation. I love AIO, keep up the good work!

I have to just say that that post Noah put on…well that was actually originally my post. I don’t know how it happened.

  • Tamara :) on June 23rd, 2010 - 2:14pm

I have homeschooled all my life, and I never ask my mom if I could go to school. My best friend is homeschooled, so we can still do assignments together. God has truly blessed me with all my friends being christians. My Dad, however, is not Jesus’s child yet, but he listens and enjoys Adventures in Odyssey during long car trips. He especially loves Wooten. Adventures in Odyssey is truly a blessing for my family and I. Thank you SO much!!!! (Vancouver Canucks/Adventures in Odyssey FAN!!!) :) :

  • Tamara :) on June 23rd, 2010 - 2:26pm

I live in Richmond, BC, Canada, and I LOVE ADVENTURES IN ODYSSEY!!! I would appreciate it if there were MORE mystery episodes. I’ve listened to almost every one!! I am finishing grd. 7 this year, and have listened to adventures in odyssey all my life. I especially love listening to Adventures in Odyssey online during my homework. That’s one of the advantages of being homeschooled. Bless focus on the family-

    I’m your #1,#2, #3, #4, all the way to #100,00,00,0000 FAN!!!

  • Tamara :) on June 23rd, 2010 - 2:34pm

Home schoolers are not any dumber, or smarter than regular school kids. I DO believe that most of them ARE better behaved. Homeschoolers ARE NOT isolated, yet, they are protected by “The Fasions”. Homeschoolers do not “act a certain way” or “listen to a certain music”. They use their own mind. I’m NOT saying that school kids are controlled mindlessly. I am just trying to point out that most kids try to “fit in”. I may sound negative, but I am truly not trying to. TOO BE CONTINUED.

  • Tamara :) on June 23rd, 2010 - 2:42pm

CONTINUATION. Half of my friend go to school, but they are just as polite as anybody. It really depends on the person. I have expierienced “Summer School” and, even I have to admit that I was tempted to dress like the other girls. Still, I do prefer homeschooling over school. At least I think. I do my homework from 9:00 – 5:00. Unless I have a big project, I might work late. Sorry I tlk so much. I just like making a point.
    P.S. I agree with most of what NOAH said. :) :) :) :)

  • Tamara :) on June 24th, 2010 - 9:05am

    Sorry. I was a bit negative. I wish I could take those last two posts off, but I can’t. :( :( sorry. :( :(

  • Tamara :) on June 24th, 2010 - 9:11am

By the way, I am just going to tell you that homeschoolers DO go on field trips with like… 20 other kids. We go to museums, and businesses. All the other kids I go with are from my homeschool group. We are all homeschooled, and meet @ a church. There, we have different age groups, and do gym, science, art, and history. It’s tons of fun, and it’s only about 2-3hrs. Plus, some of my friends are there. My best friend goes to a different homeschool group. :0 :) :) :D

  • hana on June 25th, 2010 - 1:53pm

Okay, so homeschoolers who have never been to public school do know a little about public school. I have been homeschooled since kindergarten and will be a sophomore in the 2010-2011 school year. I’m not offended by this since the writer was never homeschooled, but I do think that talking to several homeschoolers would have been great! I love AIO, and have listened to it for basically 15 years. Keep up the good work! :)

  • elizabeth on September 12th, 2010 - 4:31pm

i did not like how they made Esther’s mom so scared about doing anything.
most of the homeschool moms that i know are not like that at all. my mom rides horses and the others are just as active in everything that we do.
not most of the home schoolers do not have a special talk time though.
some may but i know about 50 familys and no one does.
    we all do regular hours.
some work harder than public schoolers . they stay up till midnight and get up at five in the morning.

  • M In co on September 22nd, 2010 - 11:43am

Hey Again. I just want to say that those of us who are homeschooled and even disagreeing within ourselves, it’s OK. Not everyone homeschools the same. I am in 9th grade (a highschooler if you will) and I have alot of work!! You know, some middle/elementary homeschoolers may have only 3 hours max of school(my brothers and sisters do! but they still work hard!) but I sure don’t!! Say I start at 9 a.m. (which I do) I am usually going till about 4 to 6 in the afternoon!!(with a break for lunch)

  • M In co on September 22nd, 2010 - 11:47am

oops, 4 to 5 in the afternoon. anyway, it’s alot more hard work than some people give us credit for sometimes. I still have to earn as many credits to graduate high school as a public/private school kid! Well, I am not trying to be mean to any one!! I am DEFINETELY not saying that homeschoolers are better than public schoolers, NO WAY!! I have some friends that are public schooled and that’s just fine!! I just hope that people can see that. (p.s. It’s my birthday today, Sep. 22!!)

Hi…If you’ve just read all the other comments, I’m a different Lydia who has a COMPLETELY different view than the other! I am SO glad that AIO had the good judgement to NOT air this! It is quite offensive to me. I mean “Talking time”? Seriously? I admit that there are the scattered cases of over sheltered homeschoolers like Esther, but that is in no case the norm. I’m in 9th grade and have never been to a school, but I;ve known al about the system for years! And, I leave the house almost every

day and see people all the time!I am glad that they did have a scene where Esther plays nicely with a girl from school, but this is just not realistic. I’ve never been on a “Field Trip” by myself and my mom, or even myself and my siblings! We always do things like that with our friends. I’d also like to point out that before high school, I always finished ALL of my work before lunch, so it’s not fair how they portrayed Esther’s amazement at the fullness of the sch

  • Lydia on September 27th, 2010 - 8:43pm

Schedule! I know that I always get more done than public schoolers, if just for the sheer fact that I don’t have to wait on 20 other students in my class. I would improve this episode by 1) adding siblings, 2) having Mrs. Langford do more than be Esther’s private tutor all day,and 3) take out the sharing time! I mean, Bible time, of course, just not “Sharing time”!

    Thanks,

    AIO Fan #1,
I don’t think there’s anything wrong w/ stating your opinion about an episode…I’ve written some comments about this episode that I thought maybe were a bit rude, perhaps, but idk, I’m not a rude person so they probably weren’t, and I don’t think your comments seemed rude. I am homeschooled so this episode offended me a bit but then I guess they didn’t know what they were doing. They shouldn’t have done an episode w/o research…but that’s a different matter.

#1. We know how to play sports
#2. We aren’t isolated we particpate in scouting troops and other activities
#3. We do just as many (probably more) subjects as public-schoolers
#4. We have a whole lot of books in our house, and maps of the world in our “library”
#5. my brother, sister, and I all play the violin and are in our local orchastra
#6. When we go on “field-trips” we go with other people, even if it’s just siblings

One thing you have to remember about homeschooling is that people do it for different reasons.
I feel that homeschooling has enriched my life in ways I wouldn’t necessarily have gotten in public school. Homeschooling is very open in some ways…and you can go at your own pace more than in public school.
Also, I can’t seem to embolden enough the fact that we homeschoolers are not isolated and we do get to talk to other people.

I have a 1 year old black, male cat named Frankie, and a 15 year old female silver Tabby. Her name is Silver. I also have a year and a half male hamster named Cheeko. Then, I have a snail named Slime, and a 5 year old blood-fin fish named Sammi. Do you have any pets? I also love art and designing things. Thanks!

Just wondering, but why aren’t you answering my questions? Did you have a good Christmas? :) :D :P ;)

  • Tami :) on January 12th, 2011 - 10:50am

    Hi Hannah K.

In my second – last post to you, I told you I had a blood-fin fish. He died January 7th. :’( I am going to bury him today… IN THE SNOW! Yep, Richmond BC, Canada is covered in snow! Is there snow where you are?

  • Hannah, Josh on January 21st, 2011 - 9:49am

    Dear Tami,
I’m sooo sorry I haven’t answered your questions! I’ve meant to, and I have kept on thinking about it, but I never got to it! :( Anyway, my family has 1 Shetland Sheep Dog. Her name is Meisje. (its Dutch for “little girl”)
We have had TONS of fish! I have had a Beta fish, and a little purple fish, but I can’t remember the type! That fish went through alot! :) My little brother dumped cream, lip chap and bracelets in her tank one day! I think she died not long after that! contin.

  • Hannah, Josh on January 21st, 2011 - 10:01am

    continued.
My brother had a crawfish that he got from a creek, brought it home, kept it in a tank, put it in the bathroom, and it really stunk up the bathroom! It eventually died.
I’m so sorry that your fish died. :( Do you think you’re going to get another?
I live in Central Pa. and we just got like 7 inches of snow last night! On top of 5 inches that we got last week and ice!
I LOVE snow! We might get another storm next week! I bet you get lots of snow where you live!

One of my favorite sports in Baseball. Is there a team that you like in the Major Leagues? My favorites are the Phillies, Yankees and Mets.
Thanks for your time! I hope I answered all your questions!

I am home schooled. I enjoy homeschooling, but homeschooling is not for everyone. If you are a really social person homeschooling may not be for you. For others homeschooling is awesome. One type of school is not particularly better than the other. It just depends on the person. For me homeschooling has been great. This AIO episode was not very accurate, but I did enjoy it.

  • Karis on January 27th, 2011 - 8:51am

I’m homeschooled and I really like it. I get to work at my own pace. It’s not like in the Odyssey thing. I can’t believe that even Mr. Wittacker had only read about homeschoolers. where I live, there’s tons of homeschooled kids. We don’t like have ‘talks’ at the beginning of the day. We just do all the regular subjects at our own pace and if you’re really good in one subject then you can kinda move ahead. Anyway, I’m running out of characters. But, I <3 homeschool.

Happy Birthday Tamara, I know you don’t know me at all but it sounds like you and Hannah are really nice people.Even though I’m only 9 I guess we have a bit in common. I’m home schooled and live in Canada. Even though both of you are a couple years older than me it would still be nice if we could talk. You don’t have to respond if you don’t want to. After all I’m just a kid and your way older than me. It was just a thought.

To answer your question, I don’t really have a favorite animal. But I guess if I’d have to narrow it down, I really like dogs and I know this next one is a bit weird, but also deer! :) We have A LOT of deer where I live! I also like cats.
I hope you don’t mind me asking you this, but are you allowed to where make-up? I’m not, and I’m fine with it, but when I get older I think it will be neat!

I’m a homeschooler and i like that they have a homeschooler on the show. As a homeschooler, you don’t get to rescue cats out of trees or talk. I’m thirteen and because I did extra over the weeks it was easy, I am finishing middle school and starting highschool in march. I have 4 little sisters and one little brother and its harder than its portrayed in this episode. I like Robyn and her dad’s tradition. I wish they had a Whit’s End in Savannah Ga. Hey Tami and Hannah. My best friend and I always play with SCHLEICH horses when I go over. My favorite color is blue. I’m completely horse crazy. I have 5 siblings. Two brothers and 3 sisters. I’m the youngest in my family. Oh and for you Tami when its 9:oo here it would be 6:00 in BC. My older brother is 11 and the most annoying person on the planet. Unfortunately I don’t have any pets. I’m in grade four right now. Also do any of you have a Wii? I got one for Christmas 2 years ago.

    Hi Maggie!
This is Hannah. I hope you don’t mind me saying a few things! I have 5 siblings too! 2 brothers and 3 sisters! I’m the oldest. One of my brothers is 12, so almost the age of one of your brothers! How old is the oldest in your family?
My family has a Wii too! We really enjoy it! :)

  • TamARA :) on April 5th, 2011 - 5:41pm

    hi. test drive lol.

  • TamARA :) on April 6th, 2011 - 2:47pm

Hi guys. I posted a reply awhile ago, but for some reason the posting line didn’t approve of it. All I said was that I didn’t know how popular SCHLEICH is. Anyway….
Yea, I have a Wii, and Wii fit. I think a LOT of people have a Wii now. Just wondering, but who is your favourite character in AIO? I like Mr. Whitaker (if that’s how you spell it), Connie, Mitch, and Eugene. I like a lot! My favourite series is the Nova Com series… I own it! :)

  • MAGGIE on April 11th, 2011 - 7:47am

Hey guys. My oldest sister Hannah is 24. My favorite character is Wooton. My second favorite is Jared. I know I know I like all the crazy characters. Guess what? My sister’s home from bible college from New York. She’s going to be here for the summer and then go back to New York in the fall for her last term. I love the Novacom Saga but my brother (the annoying one) says Blackgaard saga is the best. What is he thinking? I have Wii Fit Plus, Mariokart, Animal Crossing CF, Star Wars Lego 3,

  • MAGGIE on April 11th, 2011 - 8:08am

CONTINUED New Super Mario Bros and a few other games. Hey Tami have you ever heard of the Rainforest Bear? Something happened at church yesterday. We were just about to start service when when hail and rain pounded on the roof. My Pastor stopped talking and then BOOM. Lightning struck the roof. Then the fire alarm went off. Everybody hustled to the front of the building. Finally firemen came and aparently it was a false alarm. And then later I’m going on a bikeride. Saturday was beautiful and I

  • MAGGIE on April 12th, 2011 - 7:18am

Sorry my comment was a bit disorganized. What I meant about the bears is that they live in BC.GTG

REALLY? I LOVE making up stories!
I do think 1 more person would be an overload… but how would you feel if Hannah and I rejected you that first time? I mean, I don’t think that anyone else would like to join, but I think if someone wants to, we should let them. :)
    Hannah? I miss you. :(
    Why aren’t you commenting???? :(

  • Livi on May 25th, 2011 - 8:15am

    I have to go! Bye!

  • Hannah K on July 28th, 2011 - 3:23pm

Hi Livi! I have some ideas of what to do with the little kids while you babysit if you don’t mind me sharing! :)
    1. a fun easy craft(s) with the children (in my past experiences, a craft really keeps children occupied! :)
    2. some fun games that you know of, like maybe duck, duck, goose! or red light, green light
Hope these ideas help! :) I’ll be praying for you while @ camp!
    Bye!

Thanks girls for the tips. But I found out that there was only going to be a 5 yr. old and her 2 yr. old sister.
These 2 weeks have been sooo busy!!!

  • Livi on August 4th, 2011 - 2:34am

We were at camp for 4 days. And on the last day we went to a pool (with the camp) all day! O.K. so we live across the street from the man (and his family) that my dad works with. They have 2 girls a 5 yr. old and a 2 yr. old. So at the pool Naomi (the 5 yr. old) had her 5th birthday! But her mother was pregnant. And my mom noticed that she wasn’t feeling well. When we got home we sooo tired! And were planning on sleeping in, but the next morning our mom woke us up and told us that we should go

  • Livi on August 4th, 2011 - 2:43am

get the girls (Naomi & Nichol). So their mom went to the hospital and had a baby girl named Natalie!!! We baby-sat the girls for 2 days. And today their mom is coming HOME!!!! YAY!!!!! With the baby!!!!! Can’t wait!!!!!!

Oh and guess what?! I did my first diaper change ever!!!!! The girls also got their first bath in a real bathtub. They were so excited!!! :D
So as you can hear we are very busy!!!

  • Hannah K on August 4th, 2011 - 1:10pm

    Hi Gretta Joy!
I love that name! :) It sure was a surprise that your name isn’t Maggie, but Gretta Joy! One of my sister’s names is Moriah Joy. I have 1 question though. Why did you tell us your name was Maggie instead of Gretta Joy? I really missed “talking” with you, so it’s great to have you back.
I’m glad that you had a great time at VBS! I did too, but I was a helper. :)
I will definately be praying for Katie. I know exactly how she feels. I was playing on the monkey bars..

  • Hannah K on August 4th, 2011 - 1:21pm

when I was about 9, and I fell and broke my wrist. I had a cast on for 3 weeks, but it wasn’t too bad. My right wrist, (the one that I broke) is actually stronger now than my left! (In my opinion! :)
I just thought of something. It’s neat that your brother and you are going into 5th and 7th, and my brother and I are going into 6th and 8th. Just between your brother’s and your grades!
I can’t wait to start school either!
Well, I have to go! Bye!

  • Livi on August 5th, 2011 - 7:26am

Yes! I love that name “Gretta Joy”! Mine is Olivia (almost everybody calls me Livi)and Naomi calls me “Luv”!!! :D

My brother is going into 5th, my sister is going into 6th and I’m going into 7th grade. We are using “Sonlight Curriculum” for homeschooling (it was started for missionary families like us). Sonlight has a TON of COOL stuff for homeschooling!!! But for math we use Math’U’See.

  • Livi on August 5th, 2011 - 7:33am

I once climbed a tree that had our puppy chained to. But then the puppy jumped up and down at me and I fell. Everything went blank, then when I came to all I felt and saw was a wet slimy tung (I don’t know how to spell that) licking my face!!! Ugh!!! Well any way I only sprained my left arm.

  • Livi on August 5th, 2011 - 7:40am

Oh, wow! Sounds like you had a really busy, but exciting week! :)
Congratulations on successfully changing a diaper! I remember when I was younger, I would start to change one of my sibling’s diapers, but then I would ask my mom to take over because I couldn’t stand the smell!
Please tell us what Natalie looks like when she comes home. I’m sure she’s really cute! Oh, and how is her mom?
It was great to hear from you again!

    Hey Guys what’s up?

  • Livi on August 19th, 2011 - 3:47am

I’m doing great. What about you?

The baby is adorable and looks almost exactly like her older sister did when she was a baby. She’s sooo TINY! When my mom picks her up she just curls up on mom’s shoulder. SOOO cute! Nicole is still getting used to not being the baby and princess in the family. She’s been pretty grumpy lately because of that.

So any way there’s a lady that gave me a whole file pictures and activities for Sunday school. I’m so excited!!! Now I know what to do for Sunday School.

  • Livi on August 19th, 2011 - 3:51am

Danielle and I went to the beach with some missionary friends. Then we went to the village for Bible study. The lady who owned the house where we went had cute little ducklings and we got to hold them, they were so soft!
We went back home and had a sleep-over!!! It was fun!!!

  • Hannah K on September 7th, 2011 - 4:18pm

    Hi Livi!
I’m doing great too! We started school a week ago, so we’re trying to get back into the swing of things again. :)
She sounds sooooo adorable! I love when babies are newborns!
I know what its like to have a little girl in the house who is jealous since she isn’t the center of attention anymore! When my youngest sister was born, my 2nd youngest sister had a hard time, and sometimes still does! :)
That’s great that a lady gave you activities and pictures for Sunday school!

  • Hannah K on September 7th, 2011 - 4:25pm

I think it would be really neat to teach younger kids Sunday School!
I hope everything is going well with teaching. How have the last few Sunday’s went? I hope well. :)

Please forgive because its taken so long for me to respond to your comment.
Lordwilling, next time I’ll respond as fast as possible. :)
Oh! One last thing. What is your favorite Bible verse? One of my favorites is Hebrews 12:1-2.
    Bye!

Well, I have to go! Bye!

  • Liz on October 13th, 2011 - 1:15pm

    I’m ten

  • Hannah K on October 13th, 2011 - 10:17pm

One of my sisters is ten too. That’s neat. :)
Turning double didgets is exciting! How was your birthday?
Well, I need to go, but I hope to “talk” to you later! :)
    Goodbye!

  • DB on October 16th, 2011 - 7:49pm

I was home schooled as a child, all the way through high-school. I also was an avid listener of this radio show, but I had never heard this episode until I was beginning college. It is almost laughable how inaccurate the portrayal of a day in a home school student’s life was in this episode, I believe the writers redeemed themselves immensely with the characters Aubrey and Bethany Shepherd, though. And yes, as an adult, I still listen to the show, but mostly the episodes dating before 2009.

  • Liz on October 18th, 2011 - 4:46pm

My birthday was awsome I had a bowling party. And I also got to watch Pride and Pregiduce.

  • Livi on October 19th, 2011 - 9:46am

    Happy Birthday Liz!
I luv that film “Pride and Prejudice”, its one of my favorite movies/films!
I had a sleep-over for my birthday, and invited two sisters.

  • Livi on October 19th, 2011 - 9:50am

Every Friday we go to a homeschooling co-op! They have it at a school for TCK’s/Mk’s. There are so many homeschoolers!!! I have never been with so many homeschooler kids our age and who have experiences like us (me and my brother & sister)! Its SOOOO much FUN!!!!

    Where do you girls live?

  • Hannah K on October 19th, 2011 - 12:24pm

Oh, Liz! I’m so happy for you! I love bowling, and Pride and Prejudice is a good movie! Which version did you watch? Did you like it?

  • Livi on October 20th, 2011 - 9:12am

I watched the new version. But I REALLY want to watch the older one.
Have you watched Emma? I’ve watched the old and new. The new one has an actresses and actors (I can’t remember) that played in “Pride & Prejudice” and “Sense & Sensibility” (oh and Mansfield Park),
Jane Austin films are really good. But I didn’t like Mansfield Park. It was VERY cheesy!

  • Livi on October 20th, 2011 - 9:16am

OK so the Jane Austin films I watched were:
    Pride & Prejudice (newer one)
    Sense & Sensibility
    Persuasion
    Emma (old and new)
    Mansfield Park

  • Livi on October 20th, 2011 - 9:24am

I want to watch “Northanger Abbey”.

  • Hannah K on October 20th, 2011 - 4:24pm

We go to a homeschool co-op too! My siblings and I really like it, and I’m so glad that you like yours too! Ours is at a church. I’ve never been with so many homeschoolers either! But its really neat. :)
That’s neat that you had a sleepover. :) I bet it was fun!
My family and I live in northeastern Pennsylvania. The leaves are beautiful now, and its getting colder! I heard on the radio that we’re supposed to have a pretty harsh Winter, but I don’t know, Only the Lord knows!

  • Hannah K on October 20th, 2011 - 4:26pm

I sometimes just have to laugh; people seem so sure of themselves or others predictions! It would be neat though if we got lots of snow this year!
What is the weather like in Albania?
    Goodbye! ;)

  • pax on October 21st, 2011 - 9:58pm

i am homeschooled to i like the episode but i think all homeschooleders know what a bell is from like TV and friends from church

  • Liz on October 24th, 2011 - 8:57pm

I live in OR in a small town called Newport.

  • Livi on October 25th, 2011 - 6:34am

It was really cold not long ago, but now we have some warm weather. Most houses here don’t have built in heaters! Brrr! We use gas heaters (they are dangerous!).

  • Hannah K on October 27th, 2011 - 7:45am

Thats interesting! Because not too long ago it was warmer, in the 60′s, but now today we might get some snow and its in the 40′s – 50′s. Now you are getting warmer weather, and we’re getting colder! :)
Oh, my! That would be really cold! But I’m glad that you have some source of heat. I’ll be praying for your family’s safety though.
Wow! You have watched A LOT of Jane Austin movies! I’ve only watched Pride and Prejudice! So, did you watch the Emma that’s a Musical?

  • Hannah K on October 27th, 2011 - 7:49am

Do you celebrate Reformation Day? My family celebrates it in place of Halloween. My daddy made up a Reformation Scavenger Hunt last year! It was a lot of fun. Tomorrow, Lordwilling, our Pastor and his family are coming over to have a party with us! I’m so excited!
    Well, goodbye!

  • Hannah K on October 27th, 2011 - 3:52pm

Wow Liz! I think thats neat that you live in Oregon. What is the weather like there now? I bet its probably pretty chilly! Have you had any snow yet?

  • Hannah K on October 27th, 2011 - 3:54pm

    Hello Challie,
How are you? How’s your schoolwork going? I hope well!
Well, I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you. :)

  • Livi on October 28th, 2011 - 2:27am

We don’t celebrate anything. When we were little. We were astonished when we found out what Halloween meant. I really hate Halloween. Its disgusting with all those creepy things!

  • Hannah K on October 29th, 2011 - 11:46am

I know what you mean about Halloween. Have you ever heard Odyssey’s “What Are We Gonna Do About Halloween?” episode? I think its really good, and it taught my siblings and I a lot more background about Halloween. The bad and the good that happened around October 31st. So many people have turned Halloween into trying to scare people and wiches and spirits and ghosts! I think its sad that our society celebrates those things. But they need the Lord too. I know Christians who do celebrate it,Cont-

  • Hannah K on October 29th, 2011 - 11:50am

    Continued-
but don’t see anything wrong with it. The Lord may not have convicted them yet of it.
But praise the Lord for His grace that He continually gives us in our lives! Even when we sin, for those whom He has chosen to be His people, his blood covers our sin!

  • Livi on November 1st, 2011 - 5:44am

You know Halloween “day” is a Catholic Saint day. But somebody thought of Halloween on the same day.

Guess what my Mom made?! She made “RICE-CRISPY-TREATS” (which is very rare! I haven’t had any in 6 months!) :D

  • Hannah K on November 3rd, 2011 - 7:40pm

Yes, I have heard of that before.
That’s great! You know, my mom makes rice crispies rarely too! But my grandma sometimes makes them for my siblings and I, and really like them! Although I haven’t had any for a long time too.
    Goodbye!

  • Hannah on November 5th, 2011 - 12:01pm

Guess what? My siblings and I are at my grandma’s for a sleepover and she made us rice crispies! I thought that was so neat that you and I hadn’t had rice crispie treats in a long time and then, your mom and my grandma made them for us!

  • Livi on November 8th, 2011 - 8:49am

    :D
    Thats funny!
    Rainy season has now started!

  • Hannah K on November 10th, 2011 - 5:19pm

    Hi Livi!
I have a question. When you say “rainy season” does that means it rains all the time? I was just curious :)
Its in the 50′s here now, but its been dropping to the 30′s @ night.
    GTG!

  • Liz on November 11th, 2011 - 6:43pm

Actually Hannah the town that I live in is more rainy than snowy, it only snows like once a year.

  • Anonymous on November 13th, 2011 - 8:45am

Hey everybody sorry I haven’t gotten on in a lonnnnggg time!! I have been thinking about you too! What’s up with ya’ll?

  • chal on November 13th, 2011 - 8:45am

Hey everybody sorry I haven’t gotten on in a lonnnnggg time!! I have been thinking about you too! What’s up with ya’ll?

  • Hannah K on November 14th, 2011 - 8:21pm

Oh, wow. Thats interesting. It snowed here on Oct. 29th, but its been rainy and actually warm since!
I hope you’ll get some snow.:)

  • Hannah K on November 14th, 2011 - 8:23pm

That’s so sweet of you Challie!
    How’s your school work going?
I can’t believe its Thanksgiving next week! This year has gone by so fast.

  • Livi on November 15th, 2011 - 6:54am

    Yup!
Right now though the Rainy Season stopped. But its FREZZING!!! Today we (us kids and our Dad) were bringing up wood for our fire wood and when we put some of it in our house an ugly SCORPION!!! :o
U should have seen how he struck a bug (that we put for the scorpion)! It went crunch!!!Yuck!
Well nothing much has happened yet. But Jon (my 10 year old brother) and I are going to play “Silent Night” on the guitar (Jon) and the piano (me) for our homescool co-op Christmas pageant! Yay! Nervous!

  • jOY on November 15th, 2011 - 8:02pm

You make it sound like nobody knows what homeschooling is. I am home schooled. Thank you very much.

  • jOY on November 15th, 2011 - 8:15pm

You make it sound like nobody knows what homeschooling is and she is completely oblivious to the world. I am home schooled and I do not like this episode.

  • Livi on November 19th, 2011 - 5:47am

Hey are you really mad about something?

  • GRETTA on November 19th, 2011 - 6:13am

Hey everyone. I won’t be on often, but I’m around. I’m watching school on the Net now, and there is a blog so I can talk to other homeschoolers across the world. also I have email. I’ll find some way to tell you without alerting the whole world. Whats up with ya all? School is alright, but I can’t wait for Christmas. Also guess what? I went to see a live performance of sound of music. More details later. GTG. Bye!

  • EAM on November 22nd, 2011 - 3:30pm

You guys are right that this episode doesn’t give a realistic view on homeschoolers. Though I really don’t think that you should give up the idea of having a homeschooling family on the show. I’m sure you would have no trouble at all finding real people to give you the concepts of homeschooling. Unlike the show implied, I am homeschooled, have lots of friends, homeschooled, and public schooled, and what happens in public school is not unfarmiliar to me, even though I have never been to school.

  • Hannah K on November 23rd, 2011 - 4:31pm

    Hi everyone!
    Happy Thanksgiving!

May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving thanking our Lord for his MANY blessings!

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name!”
    ~Psalm 100:4~

  • Hannah K on November 23rd, 2011 - 4:35pm

    Hello Livi,
If you were talking to me, no, I’m not angry at all about anything! If you thought I was because I hadn’t responded yet, I’m sorry.
Wow! That is so neat that you and your brother are going to be in a Christmas pageant. When is it? I hope it goes well. :)
    Goodbye!

  • Livi on November 24th, 2011 - 3:33am

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!!!!!
    May God bless your day!
    ~Olivia

    :)

  • Hannah K on November 30th, 2011 - 8:08am

    Hello Gretta,

It’s great to hear from you! But I understand with being busy.
That is neat that you get to be in contact with other homeschoolers around the world.
Wow! That is really neat that you got to see a real live performance! I once saw the Sound of Music play with my cousins, and it was pretty good. :)
I know, I’m really excited for Christmas too! Although this year my Mom is going to try to keep our schoolwork load light. Last year it was pretty hectic! But I’m looking…

  • Hannah K on November 30th, 2011 - 8:09am

forward to relaxing, and reflecting on Jesus and all that He has done this year.
    Well, goodbye!

  • Hannah K on November 30th, 2011 - 8:16am

    Hi Challie,
That’s fine, its totally understandable! We all get busy. :)
I’m doing well, but how are you? How is your schoolwork coming along? Mine is going well, but yesterday was our 1st day to get back to work after a few days off, except for doing some math. :)
I’m excited for Christmas, are you? I like to sew my family some gifts, so I have to start getting to work! But I’m excited.
Well, I need to go, Goodbye!

  • Livi on December 3rd, 2011 - 3:04pm

Hi Hannah K. No, I meant “Joy”. It sounded like she was mad at somebody.
Well anyway. I’m also playing in a piano recital on the 18th. I can’t wait.
I love sewing things too. But we left all our sewing supplies in Ukraine. So we hardly have any sewing supplies.
My sister’s birthday is tomorrow (the 4th of December). And I got her a cute little stain glass (with flowers) jewelry box!
Today we had a MK (missionary kid) meeting. At our friend’s house. There were 17 kids there! We had tons of FUN!

  • Liz on December 8th, 2011 - 10:19pm

Hey ya’ll sorry I haven’t been around for a little while I’ve been veary busy. Were is Tamara?

  • Livi on December 15th, 2011 - 4:28am

Yesterday we went out to the edge of the mountains and chopped down a “REAL” Christmas tree!!! We haven’t had a real Christmas tree since I was about 4 years old!!!!
    So HAPPY!!! :D
So I guess everybody is busy?
Gotta go help haul wood! Bye!

  • Liz on December 15th, 2011 - 7:30pm

Wow Livi a real tree I’ve never had one of those.

  • Anonymous on December 16th, 2011 - 8:30am

    Hi Livi,
Just wanted to say I read your posts but I don’t have the time right now to respond to them. Lordwilling, I’ll write back later!
    :)

  • Livi on December 18th, 2011 - 1:03pm

I played in a piano recital today. I was not nervous though. Because in Ukraine the system goes like this:
Before you move to the next music piece, you memorize it!
So I had to play all the songs that I memorized at my 1st piano recital (in Ukraine).
So today I played with ease. And I was the only kid that played without looking at the notes!!! I played perfect.

  • Anonymous on December 24th, 2011 - 9:47am

    Hello Livi!
Congratulations! I’m so happy for you. =)

Oh, That is so neat! I don’t really have a friend who likes to sew like me, but now I do! I hope that you will be able to sew somehow sometime. Maybe the Lord will provide some sewing supplies for you in Albania.
Oh, that sounds so pretty! I’m sure your sister loved it.
I love real Christmas trees. They smell so good and are so pretty! My family (I think) has had a real Christmas tree for as long as I can remember.

  • Hannah K on December 24th, 2011 - 10:16am

    Hello Livi!
Congratulations! I’m so happy for you. =)
You are my only friend that likes to sew like I do! I hope that you will somehow be able to sew again soon. Perhaps the Lord will provide for you some sewing supplies in Albania. I will pray.
Oh, that sounds so pretty! I’m sure your sister really liked the jewelry box. =)
Real trees are so pretty and smell so fragrant! I’m so happy that you got a real one! My family has had a real one ever since I can remember, but I’m glad when

  • Hannah K on December 24th, 2011 - 10:17am

How is horseback riding going? I hope well!

  • Evan Reedall on January 19th, 2012 - 12:37pm

@ FaNNY Regarding your not about the “You Go To School Where?” episode, we do apologize about it’s misrepresentation. Please direct any further comments to our email account at questions@whitsend.org

  • bella on January 19th, 2012 - 6:42pm

as a homeschooler and former public schooler it did offend me a little implying we home schoolers don’t do anything but then again public school was misrepresented as well. I hope that Odyssey tries again to do an episode with a homeschooler but this time get a homeschooler’s help :)
    love odyssey though

  • Liz on January 27th, 2012 - 6:08pm

    Blessings to you!
    Hannah

  • Liz:) on February 21st, 2012 - 7:43pm

    Hey Hannah!

School is going great! ‘Get In The Show’ is where kids can enter at their local Family Christion Bookstore and film themselves acting and if the prize is that you’ll get to be a charicter, if you want to know more go to http://www.whitsendblog.org/getintheshow/ And also, I’ve entered a Bach festivel, and I went on to Regalnals an then I just found out I’m going to State! Please pray for me.

    That’s all,

  • Dakota on March 8th, 2012 - 6:10pm

Hi AIO! I commented earlier in August saying that I was looking forward to homeschooling, and now that I’ve started it, I’ve NEVER looked back at my old school! It’s so fun! The best thing about homeschooling is the fact that every Thursday, I go to a drama group and it’s so fun! AIO, you should try and make another homeschooler! Maybe the Get in the Show winner could be one!

  • Dakota on March 8th, 2012 - 6:58pm

Another thing I have to mention, some people say that homeschoolers stay in their pjs all day, and maybe some do, but I would HATE to spend all day in my pajamas! It’s bad enough I have to sleep in them!

  • livi on March 16th, 2012 - 8:08am

Cool Dakota! I luv homeschooling too. Still wish I could experience being in public school! We go to a homeschooling group every Friday. I always look forward to going there every Friday! :)

well, im homeschooled and its not anything like that! My older sister goes to a public school. In the morning I get up, change, comb my hair, eat, clean my room and do violin, then i just do my other stuff. I don’t know why Eshter acted like she never saw a violin before! I play it. I’ve been homeschooled ever since kindergartden andnow I am in 4th grade. We go lots of places with our homeschool group and its not just us. My little brother is homeschooled. I have a baby sister too.

  • homeschooler on April 1st, 2012 - 8:22pm

The characters of the Shepherd girls were homeschooled. The way they did it was more accurate than this episode but this was still a good episode.

Hi Tamara, Livi, Liz, Challie, and Maggie, (I hope I’m not missing anyone!)

Hey! I’m really sorry I haven’t written in such a long time. A lot has happened since I last wrote. My 6th sibling Jordan, went to be with Jesus, and there have been a few health difficulties in my family, but God is still faithful. I’d really appreciate your prayers for my family.
Anyway, I realized how much I’ve missed responding with you all. :) How are you all doing? Are you starting school again soon?

  • Hannah K on August 15th, 2012 - 8:20am

    Hey Liz,

I’m so sorry I haven’t responded to your message when you wrote it in February! I was so happy though to hear about you entering the Bach festival, and going to regionals and state!! How did it go?
I saw your message to Tamara about your grandma, and I just wanted to let you know that I’ll be praying for her and you. I can relate a bit to you since my nana is having health problems too.
Its good to “talk” you! ;) Bye!

  • Hannah K on August 15th, 2012 - 8:27am

    Hey Livi,

I think thats a great idea about trying to write to each other till we’re 18 every other month or so! Or even if someone wants to get on and write a quick comment if they have a minute, I think that would be nice too. :)

I’ve thought of you even though I haven’t written in a while.
I hope you’re doing well, and have had a good summer.
Well, I hope to “talk” later!

  • Hannah K on August 15th, 2012 - 8:30am

    Hey Challie,
How is riding Rico going? I hope your summer has gone well. :) Are you ready to start school soon? See ya!

  • Gretta on October 24th, 2012 - 9:41am

Guys, hey, listen, it’s me, Maggie, or my real name is Gretta. I know a place where we can talk all the time! I can’t believe how long it’s been! Listen, search for something called the odyssey scoop. On there there’s this message board called the soda shop in the top right corner of the odyssey scoop. I’m on there, and there’s a chat, and we can message each other. on there, I’m JoyfulG, ok? We can talk all the time.

How’s everyone been doing? I’m in 6th grade. It’s tough.

  • Anonymous on November 16th, 2012 - 9:00pm

Hey about homeschool thing it totally agree with a lot of these other people don’t know any of you but yea we homeschoolers are looked down on many people think I am not as smart as them but homeschool rocks! We are just as smart as people who go to school!

  • Avery on November 27th, 2012 - 4:16pm

I don’t think AIO did a very good job portraying homeschoolers. I am a homeschooler and we aren’t completely ignorant of what happens at a public/private school. We also do all of the same subjects that other kids do, and we don’t do anything weird like talk time. If someone like Esther were as unsocialized as she sounds, I think her mom would already know enough about her life. I am disappointed but AIO should try again and do their research right. I still like AIO, though!????

  • Charlotte on December 6th, 2012 - 12:00pm

It sounds like Esther is unschooled– not homeschooled. I could see visiting a fire station or places like that once for a field trip, but almost every day is definitely unschooling. I think AIO should ask us homeschoolers about our average day, and form a character around our answers! You should definitely try again. You guys did a good job with the Shepherds (I think that’s how their last name is spelled…) and I’m sure you’ll do an even better job with the next character you make.

  • Charlotte on December 6th, 2012 - 12:02pm

Oh, and I have a name suggestion for the next homeschooled character you guys make. I’m feeling something like Scarlet… Charla… Oh! I know! Charlotte! I don’t know how I came up with it, though. ;)

  • montana on December 12th, 2012 - 12:06pm

I am home schooled and i love adventures in odyssey I listen to it every day even when I am doing my school work at my school there is no talk time even though i am home schooled, I have toured a fire station before though they didn’t have a pole and the alarm didn’t go off and we didn’t couldn’t ride in the engine or anything else they did at the fire station everyone is right it sounded it sounded like home schoolers do nothing but we work very hard

  • whooten on December 18th, 2012 - 8:43pm

Why are you guys acting like they are going to do another boring home school eipasod thay said it did not work out

  • #1 fan on January 14th, 2013 - 3:56pm

@ MONTANA I sooo agree at one point I said I had a test I had to that night and one of my friends said she thought home schooled didn’t have to do homework.
If that were true it would be awesome!!!

  • fsd on January 18th, 2013 - 2:25pm

    no it isn’t.

  • JAnis on February 3rd, 2013 - 3:02pm

I am very glad this did not get into an album!!!
I have been home-schooled all of my life (I’m in 9th grade) and that is definitely not how it works.
Some days I don’t even get to finish all of my school! I gave myself a limit…8-9 P.M. is the latest I will go for school work.
So many people have a twisted way of thought about home-schoolers!
I do admit that I have 2 home-schooled friends who somehow are able to finish by 12…(which is utterly impossible for me and probably most others)

  • JAnis on February 3rd, 2013 - 3:04pm

LOL we do not get talk time…and any field trips are organized by a Christian home-school group.
But thanx for trying to get us in there!! =D

  • JAnis on February 3rd, 2013 - 3:08pm

Oh, and as a home-schooler, my Mom actually doesn’t teach me.
I watch a DVD of an actual class room and do all the work and homework!
I know this is not the only way home-schoolers do this(I have 2 older home-schooled sisters) but this is at least one way

  • Lianna on February 24th, 2013 - 5:48pm

Definately agree with Charlotte, it could have represented it better. I was homeschooled for 12 1/2 to 13 years and I wouldn’t have traded places for anything.
We even worked through the Hot summer so we could take off Thanksgiving through New Years. I loved it, I could work at my own pace.

  • AIOfan on May 30th, 2013 - 8:51pm

Hey guys! I love aio and I have loved every one I have heard, except this one. I agree with all the people who say that you should try again with the home-schooled characters. I am home-schooled and I love it!

  • AIOfan on June 1st, 2013 - 2:14pm

I wish you didn’t make such a big deal about home-schooling. I do agree with everyone who said that you should make another home-schooling family but if you do please don’t make it a big deal like, “(Gasp) She’s home-schooled.”. Us home-schooled kids just go to a different school than other kids it’s no big deal, so please make it kind of like this, “What school do you go to?” “Oh I’m home-schooled.” “Neat.” You guys rock!

  • AIOfan on June 1st, 2013 - 2:28pm

Hi! My name is Gigi. I’m home-schooled. Can I be part of anyone’s “Chat group” ? I don’t come on much but I would really love “Talking” to you guys. I’m having a lot of trouble with one of my really good friends right now. So it would be awesome to have some other christian kids to talk to. Like you guys! Thanks! Oh by the way I just changed the wallpaper on our computer to AIO! Check out secret word contest to download them! My little brother and sister love it! Bye!

THANKS Miz Diva!!!! I’m am really sorry I haven’t been on for such a long time. I am 12 how old are you? Are you Home-schooled?

  • AIOfan on July 6th, 2013 - 8:31pm

Oh. One more thing. If you make another home-school family please make a girl with a little sister she is really close to. My little sister is 5 years younger than me and we are really really close. A lot of the time siblings in stories aren’t very close so it would be great to have characters like that!

  • Murielle on July 6th, 2013 - 8:36pm

This is by far the worst episode. It is sooooooooooooooo cruel the way you talk about home-schoolers. I am home-schooling all 9 of my children, ages: 14, 12, 9, 11 year old twins, 6, 4, 2 and 7 1/2 months. We do not sit around at home and “talk” all day.

  • AIOfan on July 9th, 2013 - 4:25pm

Ps. Murielle is my aunt. Yeah. I know.

  • hannah on August 5th, 2013 - 4:23pm

I liked the episode. I thought it was pretty good and don’t. know why some people said it was so inaccurate and bad. I have been home-schooled since kindergarten and I love it!

  • aLEXANDRA on February 11th, 2014 - 5:29pm

I am homeschooled and i am sorry to say but you guys got this wrong it is like you do not learn any thing just beacause this one was a tottal flop dosent mean you guys cant try again. :)

  • Me on February 24th, 2014 - 11:47pm

Thanks for making a homeschool family. if you make another homeschool family, please make than less, how do I put this? I mean the shepherds live at the Timothy centre. Aubrey and Bethany are never going to dance class, music lessons, soccer practice etc. kids don’t just do these things at school ya know. I have been doing ballet for 10 years (I am 13 years old) and have also been homeschooled my whole life. I’m just trying to say that your next homeschool family needs to get out a it more

  • Pirouette on February 24th, 2014 - 11:58pm

Hi guys! Do you agree that AIO needs to make another homeschool family that:
A: isn’t as “sheltered” as Esther
    B: actually does schoolwork
C: does extra curricular activities ( like soccer and dance hint hint)

I’m just saying they need to be a perfectly “normal” family. They merely go to a different school than other people.

If anyone agrees with me just say something like:

    I agree completely

    Or I agree with B and C

    Thx : ) Pirouette

  • stormshadow on March 22nd, 2014 - 9:56am

  • Darth Vader on May 16th, 2014 - 11:37am

@Everyone – I am homeschooled and am great friends with non homeschooled friends. In my opinion homeschooled kids are just as cool if not cooler than public school kids. Even though when I tell people I am homeschooled some people will raise their eyebrows. :)

  • Violet on May 24th, 2014 - 11:02am

    @ DARTH VADER~
The same thing happens to me. People sometimes ask me if I do school at all just because I am homeschooled.
Oh and if your wondering how I found this page I was on last year.
VIOLET/MIKAH~ Give me faith to trust what you say, that your good and your love is great.

  • Craig on June 4th, 2014 - 7:08am

I am also homeschooled, would you please create a character who is homeschooled? Thanks!

    ~Craig

  • odyssey on June 11th, 2014 - 2:01pm

Maybe if you got an actor that who was/is home schooled you could do a character that is home schooled. I really, really wish I could work with you guys!!

  • Isaac on June 12th, 2014 - 7:53am

Hi I’m Isaac And I homeschool. Odyssey is great but I feel like this episode was a little bit offensive to homeschoolers. I homeschool and I know a bunch of awesome homeschoolers and I don’t think they are as clueless as Odyssey makes them out to be. Maybe Odyssey could research homeschoolers and make a better episode this time.

    Thanks,
    Isaac

  • sofrtballrox on June 13th, 2014 - 12:35pm

It would be great if you guys researched and then made a homeschooled episode. There may be homeschoolers like that but none I no.

  • sofrtballrox on June 13th, 2014 - 12:53pm

@Jess most homeschoolers are not as sheltered as Esther, I myself am in softball, track, piano, I’m helping plan a summer camp with my church. My brothers are baseball and wrestling, piano, one is in gymnastics. My sister is in softball and gymnastics. So yes we are in extra curricular. If you go to a public school you have the completely wrong view of homeschoolers. If you are homeschooled … I hope you are not homeschooled.

  • Toad on June 21st, 2014 - 1:39pm

I didn’t get to listen to the episode because where it said click to play it didn’t work!
But I read all the comments and I think all the homeschoolers were taking it WAY to offensively! Plus u homeschoolers were acting like public school is wrong! Public school gives. Better education!

  • Izak on July 9th, 2014 - 7:29am

Home schoolers know that they still use poles! and home schooler parents aren’t as protective. :( you did a terrible job on esther’s view of the Schedule

    TOAD not necessarily

  • ncfca on July 16th, 2014 - 1:25pm

    @Writers

As a home schooler I was wondering if you could do somthing like ask all homeschooling to tell what a day at home is like you could take all of the stories and make a family useing all of the similarities in the forms.

  • ncfca on July 16th, 2014 - 1:27pm

I would have been offended had they not put a disclaimer at the begening.

  • ncfca on July 16th, 2014 - 1:30pm

I hope Ester is not the home school stereotype.

  • Iwasnthereb4 on July 26th, 2014 - 11:45am

Toad, there was a review on the news that said on an average, homeschooled kids scored an 85% on a certain test; and public schooled kids scored close to 50% Now I know that doesn’t apply to everyone, but it’s what the report said.

    ~I wasn’t here before…..
