It was ok. We homeschool and are thankful to God for it. Could you try again to have shows about homeschoolers? Maybe not on the concept of helping public schoolers understand them better but a show for them.About things they face/do. Not just always wanting to go to public school either. Interview present day homeschoolers to make the show pertinent. Thanks.
Lydia on April 9th, 2009 - 9:31pm
I am homeschooled to and sometimes I think how it would be different to go to school and be around so many different kids I also have had my wanting to go to school lowered because of this. I am thankful were I am. Could you also maybe have a charater who is homeschooled and shares our troubles and difficulties? It would be really cool because there are times when we do diffrent things and how fast or slow at school or how late or early we finish. Keep up the good work.Love ya, Lydia
Tori on April 9th, 2009 - 11:04pm
I’m homeschooled, and I soooo agree with Mary
.
Lindsey S. on April 10th, 2009 - 12:04pm
I, along with my brother and sister are also homeschooled, and I am soooo glad that you did not put this episode in a album. To me it was a little offensive because us homeschoolers are not like that at all. True, most of us have never been to public school, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know anything about it. I totally agree with both Mary and Lydia, it would be really great for the producers to have a family that are homeschooled so everyone can know what it means to be a homeschooler.
Mercy on April 10th, 2009 - 5:49pm
I am homeschooled and I think Lydia is right!!

it so cool i agree with lyndia
Sarah on April 12th, 2009 - 12:04am
i agree with these girls. but i do LOVE this radio drama!i think i have listened to pretty much ALL of them. It is sad though because i rarely get to hear one i haven’t heard before!
but i would LOVE to see you guys talk with a ton of home school families and give us more credit or just not make us look like us kids don’t have a CLUE about the world…Because that is not how we are! and it just makes me sad to think some people think that is how sheltered we are….(BUT I DO LOVE THE SHOW
)
SARAH on April 12th, 2009 - 12:08am
And i really just want to get my point across that i am in NO way mad or angry at adventures in odyssey. They are truly remarkable people to put this much time into helping kids like me to grow closer to God and help us learn things that we never knew before!
so please by all means… i love this show and i am not putting it down in any way!
God bless, Sarah

KASSI on April 13th, 2009 - 10:46am
I am “homeschooled through highschool” and I ALL WAYS get comments like “oh you must hate it – of course you don’t have any friends!” people allways think that we never have any fun, or that we get to stay in our pyjamas all day and envy us. well to all those poor confused people out there – WE’RE NORMAL!!!!!!!!
I liked that the show wasen’t condemming us but showing the “other side” the truth!
Thank’s to odyssey for ALL the great shows!!!
God bless!
~Kassi
Jessica on April 13th, 2009 - 11:20am
Aww, just because this was a flop doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try again! I was homeschooled myself and have listened to Adventures in Odyssey since the beginning. I am now homeschooling my own kids!
Surely, with a little research, you can come up with a more accurate picture of homeschoolers. Considering the multitude of homeschooled listeners I’m sure you would have many offers of assistance in this.
Sawyer on April 13th, 2009 - 12:30pm
It’s a pretty show, but it does kinda make it seem that homeschoolers (me included) are uptight, kind of antisocial and boring. this is not like us at all. I totally agree with Kassi.
but I do LOVE odyssey.

I am homeschool and have listened to Odyssey for longer than I can remember. I loved this episode but I think that next time you do a episode about homeschoolers you could do a little more research. For me, being homeschooled just gives me more time out of the house. I am at a riding barn four days a week, gymnastics, church, and 2 youth groups. This ways a really funny episode though!!!!!! You guys are awesome!!!!!! Melissa
Lindsey S. on April 14th, 2009 - 11:57am
I wanted to apoligize if I seemed rude or really upset with you guys in my past comment. The show did have some positive parts so it wasn’t a complete flop. If you decide to update this episode, the only part that needs fixing is the middle part. Please do not give up on doing another episode. I know that a lot of homeschoolers, including myself, would love it if you tried again. Just like Jessica said, you would have a lot more help this time! Remember, when you don’t first suceed, try again!!!

I’m a homeschooling parent and my whole family listens to Odyssey ALL THE TIME. On an average day we have 2 or 3 Odyssey’s playing somewhere in the house.:) I thought the episode got it mostly wrong but you admited that yourselves. We love the flexiblity of homeschooling and we are one of those families that call our pajamas our school uniform. We lived in Africa for 9 years and loved that we could take our kids on road trips with our school work!
LYDIA on April 15th, 2009 - 9:32am
Hi,
I am wondering why you only have like five podcast when it says you have fourteen I think? I would really enjoy some more! Thanks you and God bless!!!
Emily on April 17th, 2009 - 9:23am
I am ten years old and my brother and I are homeschooled. I really liked your episode but I do think that where you learn and who you learn by is just as important as what you learn. My brother and I really like Adventures in Odyssey. I listen on 88.5 WNBW and I wish that you had a daily Adventures there. Thanks so much for your radio programs.

I sure hope you try again. We haven’t homeschooled in a few years and I, for one, really do miss it. My 11 year old son listened to the episode and I think it made him miss homeschooling. In public school he’s not able to spend as much time as he’d like on subjects he’s really interested/gifted in. Thanks so much for your commitment to wholesome entertainment. Even my 23, 20 & 18 year old sons still like AIO! Keep it up. God bless you!
jacque on April 19th, 2009 - 6:29pm
well, I just want to say something about adventures in oddessy. I LOVE it. I listen to it every night. (Me and My brother.) We don’t have them all but they’re awsome. Thanks for adventures in oddessy.
Ethan on April 20th, 2009 - 1:06am
its okay but you make the mom not really teach all she wanted to do was talk, my mom always made me finish all of my work. in the morning all 5 of us kids would be watching TV and are mom would walk in at 8 and say time for cool, and we would all go nooooooooooo. i think it would be great if you made some home school characters on the show as long as you make the mom(Or dad) more strict about learning.
keep up the odyssey’s B/c i’m sure ill be listening till im at least 100(i love Odyssey)
AIOROXXMYSOX on April 20th, 2009 - 7:28pm
I am not home schooled but i do feel like The Homeschoolers were posted in not the best way possible so i do understand your reasoning at the beginning…:)
lu on April 21st, 2009 - 5:38pm
Homeschoolers are smart and educated people… I don’t think “You Go to School Where?” makes them sound that way. Thanks to Odyssey for trying! Keep up the good work!
Becca on April 21st, 2009 - 6:33pm
OKAy, im NOT homeschooled, but some of my BFF’s are, and i listened to this with them and we were talking about the episode and they were saying that they SOMETIMES wanna go to public school, but then other times i’ll tell them about some of the problems i’m having and just general public school problems and then we’ll all joke around and they’ll banter and be like: ” OHHHH you public school kids!” But they agree with some of the earlier comments. In general, we liked it! :p

Ha Ha ya I love Adventures in Odyssey and I love being HOMESCHOOLED. I thank GOD that my mom does that. We went to the circus today and I think that if I where to be at school we would of not been able to go so I am glad that I am HOMESCHOOLED and all my brothers are HOMESCHOOLED to so we all listen to Adventures in Odyssey

Berthany on April 27th, 2009 - 5:24pm

elisabeth on April 28th, 2009 - 10:53am
I’m homeschooled and I thought this episode was interesting. I felt that if I went to public school I might have a similar reaction, except that I know about public schools cause i have many friends who go to public school. I think that as a homeschooler you have more experiences. Being homeschooled has allowed me to travel with my mom on trips. I feel like this episode in some ways paints a wrong picture of what homeschoolers are really like. Anyway I did enjoy listening to the episode! AIO roc
elise on April 29th, 2009 - 9:37am
I am homeschooled and i liked this episode, it is nothing like what i do at home but it was funny. I hope in spite of this flop you try again.I am a huge fan, i listen to an album a day and am ALWAYS on the website, i even listen to AIO during my math!!!I used to want to go to a public school, but now i am thankful for being taught my a christian perspective, keep up the good work!!

For me,homeschooling is a very big blessing from God. I could not imagine being taught by anyone other than my mom. But I kinda feel sorry for all the public-schooled kids I know because some of them are in 8th grade & A 6th grader (me) is smarter then them! I think it’s kinda sad!!!! How much do you learn in a public school?? I think (in a way) homeschoolers get a better education than kids who are in a public school.

Holly h. on May 1st, 2009 - 4:13pm
I am homeschooled, and i find this kind of offensive, sure we might get to have our parents for teachers, but this sometimes just adds to pressure. I go to a co-op, and have homework from that, and even though i have a week to do it, that just means the teachers give us more! And i skipped 2 grades, so my teachers at co-op expect me to be smarter that the other kids my age! But hey, I still love oddyssey, and nothing will ever change that!!
BETHANN on May 2nd, 2009 - 9:01pm
I really think you could do somemore GREAT homeschool episodes. Just do a little more research. It did sort of make it sound like us homeschoolers didn’t do anything but talk, and go on field trips. But, I think y’all have a great start, and really should do somemore. I agree with some of the others, I’m sure that you could get a lot of help from homeschoolers! Homeschooling is AWSOME! I love AIO! Thanks for all the hard work!
Lizzy on May 3rd, 2009 - 3:29pm
I can see why this episode was never released. It didn’t portray us home schooled kids very well. I think it was cool that AIO tried but I didn’t like where the producer said they won’t bring in home schooled families because public school kids might get offended. We don’t get offended when they have AIO episodes in the school. So they shouldn’t be afraid to have a home schooled family. I think you guys should introduce a home schooled family. I mean you can see how many of us there are.
ABBY on May 3rd, 2009 - 6:19pm
I think it is great that Odyssey did an episode about homeschooling. I think it was one of their first. More people need to not stereotype homeschooling so much, and this episode really brought out that being home schooled doesn’t mean people are weird and isolated from the rest of the world, it just means that they learn better at home than they would at a public school with lots of other kids.
simone on May 4th, 2009 - 2:58pm
I’m homeschooled, and I have been since 1st grade (I’m now in 7th). I really like it, and I’m in a homeschoole theater group and co-op. My tap teacher says homescholers are some of the nicest and MOST sociable people she’s ever met! So when people say homeschoolers have no friends or whatever, they just don’t know the truth. =]
In Him,
~Simone ?
P.S. I LOVE ODYSSEY!!!
Kasey on May 4th, 2009 - 8:01pm
I’m homeschooled and enjoy it. I liked the show, but like many of the other girls, I think you were right in saying that it isn’t a great view of homeschools. I know that there are those who “homeschool”, but don’t really do school, so I see why there is some confusion. But I really wish you would try again by interviewing good christian homeschoolers and getting more facts! Because all us homeschoolers really do school. I’m going through summer just to make up, and I don’t get away with it. GB!
Melinda on May 4th, 2009 - 10:15pm
There are certainly pros & cons to being attending homeschool or public school. I DO agree that this episode didn’t put either in a good light, and that it’s obvious that the writer hadn’t really experienced homeschool – but at least it opened a discussion on something that wasn’t as mainstream when the episode first aired as it is now… Using updated homeschool ideas (like they did with Aubrey) would help.
tRAE on May 5th, 2009 - 9:20pm
Hi well i like being homeschooled i used to be homeschooled. But my mom doesnt want to anymore I think that homeschoolers are cool they still can have friends after theyre done with there work. By the way i love odyssey.

Well,
Im Lydias Brother Elijah and I am Homeschooled also and I beleive that its horrible what is happening in schools today bulliying has turned into gunfights.Bullies have now moved onto the Internet and send life destroying things to their classmates and thats why me and lydia are homeschooled and very limited to where we can go on the Internet and only go to Christan Websites like this one and that is what I think about Homeschooling let me know what you think about my Comment. Thanks!

I have never been in public school and I have been always been a homeschooler. I liked this episode alot. I love doing school at home!! I think that it would be like, SO COOL if adventures in odyessy had a homeschool family.I wish that you guys did. I think that other people should know how neat it is to be homeschooled. Trust me, being homeschooled is AWESOME!

I am homeschooled and I do think that they could have made the homeschoolers a little bit smarter. GO HOMESCHOOL!!!
Elisabeth on May 8th, 2009 - 11:10am
Hey…I posted a comment like 2 weeks ago. I just wanted to say that I think you should find a couple good Christian homeschoolers and ask them about their life. Then take there answers and find a way to come up with a good episode on life as a homeschooler. I love being homeschooled and would love to hear a homeschool family on the show…Please?
mb on May 8th, 2009 - 1:08pm
Allo! I’m actually homeschooled right now.
I love AIO but I don’t really like how the home schooled girl is portrayed…but it was a lovely idea!
Laura-Grace on May 8th, 2009 - 10:52pm
I have been homeschooled all my life and I am graduating this year May 16! I found nothing offensive about this episode, but I think it would be AWESOME if you could make a new show about homeschooling, because now so many more people know what homeschooling is all about. I am so blessed to have been taught by my mom, who is a wonderful christian lady. I believe that if I hadnt of been homeschooled, I wouldnt have a close relationship with Christ like I have now. I am really going to miss it

im not homeschooled, and i thought this episode gave me more of an appreciation for what homeschool parents have to do
if i were a homeschooler, i really don’t know what i would of felt about this one
firestar on May 11th, 2009 - 6:27am
This is AWSOME! This is great because I’m going to be homeschool soon next year.
Lindsey S. on May 11th, 2009 - 1:43pm
Firestar, please don’t think that all that you heard on this episode is whats going to happen when you start homeschool next year. Homeschoolers don’t get off easy. We have to work just as hard as Public schoolers. But homeschooling is great, and I know that you are really going to love it. Take it from somebody who has been homeschooled for 11 years!!! It’s such a blessing!
Cassie on May 11th, 2009 - 7:23pm
I think that homeschoolers are missunderstood by non-home educators. They think that we are a bunch of families with at least 6 kids each (LOL) who stay at home all day and do light schoolwork. Well, I am homeschooled along w/ my 5 other brothers and sisters, and I can tell you We Are NOT Like That At ALL! Not that I think this AIO made that point at all!! I’m just saying that just because we stay at home doesn’t mean we aren’t socialized (I get this question all the time) cont.
Cassie on May 11th, 2009 - 7:26pm
or that we are a bunch of people who go to the shopping center as a field trip!
I know a LOT of families that homeschool in Mississippi who are some of the greatest people ever!
I would also like to say that I LOVE AIO!! I will listen for as long as I can! Thank you for making some good wholesome entertainment!!
xobeo on May 14th, 2009 - 9:16am
FIRESTAR, Don’t think that homeschoolers get off on school a lot or something….our mom prints us a weekly schedule of all our subjects, the time we are supposed to do them, and our daily chores. You’re going to love having a more flexible school year though. This way you can keep on going through the summer (or not
)and get a grade ahead like my brother did. You’ll LOVE Homeschooling though!

hey, i also am homeschooled but have only been for two years and am loving it! i have been in public school and a private school so i know what it is like. Homeschool is great not only because we get to stay in PJ’s all day but we get to learn about God in a ciriculum that doesn’t talk about evolution! and to bring to everyone’s memory they did bring a homeschool family to odyssey Aubrey and Bethany Shepard where homeschooled remeber.lol. and i see that there are a lot of homeschoolers. love AIO

I’m a high school homeschool student and been homeschooled all my life!!!
But ya the show didn’t really show what a homeschooler was really like, I play three instruments, and do lost of other things. My brothers were all homeschooled too and the ones that went to collage were at the top of their classes when the graduated. One of them was even valedictorian. Homeschooling is great!!! I think y’all should interview some of us homeschoolers and make a show for homeschoolers.
BeccA on May 22nd, 2009 - 8:47pm
I have been homeschooled for my whole life,(twelve yrs.) and I still like the episode, tho i agree that we are not as dumb as that.I think you should try another attempt at a homeschool episode. P.S, I heart oddysey, and are your #1 Fan! No kidding!!

i’am home schooled and i didn’t have a problem with it. i also have been to a public school, and it portrayed public schools the same.
Kirsty on May 27th, 2009 - 12:31pm
I know very little about homeschooling, but it certainly didn’t sound very realistic! However, the producers realise that.
It’s much harder to write about homeschools than schools – all schools are similar(ish), whereas there will be as many kinds of homeschooling as there are parents and children. So however they portrayed it, someone would say “it’s not like that”
I think the best thing is to have a few characters who just happen to be homeschooled – not the theme of an episode.
Kirsty on May 27th, 2009 - 12:35pm
Btw – however you are educated, make sure you don’t look down on others who are educated differently. There are advantages in both ways.
Marta on May 27th, 2009 - 3:25pm
I’m homeschooled and my parents are missionaries in Africa. I love AIO! It means a lot to me for you to do this every day. I feel like this is my only connection to America. I love you guys and hope you put out more AIO every day!
Elisabeth on May 28th, 2009 - 8:27am
Hi, I keep coming on here to see what other people are saying. O hey Marta, my parents were missionaries in Africa! We were there in 2001. Where are you in Africa? We were in Kenya. Anyway…Odyssey please try again.
Hannah on May 28th, 2009 - 10:43am
hey odyssey i am homeschooled!and i love this radio drama i have heard ALL of them! this one did sound like that it was making homeschoolers a little lazy! I’m homeschooled and i am in eighth grade (i am 14) and i am ahead of most kids that go to public school that are my age!! i think that you should try again! and it would be really cool if you interview like 15 homeschooled families!! but you guys are AWASOME!! i got some of my middleschool friends hooked on it 2!
we love odyssey!
bRITTANY on May 29th, 2009 - 11:25am
It sounds like there is a unanimous request here… please try again!
I graduated from homeschool high school three years ago after attending public, private and homeschools. Overall, I thought the episode was pretty good, except where the little homeschooled girl didn’t know about instruments… literally all homeschoolers I know play *at least* one instrument.
Anyway, I thought it was pretty good and would love to see (hear!) more homeschoolers in the episodes!

I was homeschooled too. From 8 to 17. My parents were missionaries in Africa and we ate and drank odyssey over there. It was the best way of schooling because we moved around a lot. I don’t think the episode was a total flop considering everything.

I AM HOMESCHOOLED AND I LOVE IT AND I AM 12 I LOVE THIS STORIE I LOVE ALL YOUR STORIES I HAVE LISTEN TO ALL OF THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN KEEP MAKING STORIES AND I HAVE A SISTER AND BROTHER WHO DO HOMESCHOOLED TWO AND I HAVE LOTS OF FRIENDS WHO DO HOMESCHOOLED TWO IT IS SO MUCH FUN
Katie on May 31st, 2009 - 8:58pm
I was homeschooled for a semester. Its pretty different from the episode. We don’t have “sharing times” or anything. Sure, you go at your own pace while changing from class to class, and I had a lot of fun lounging on the couch with my bathrobe and stuffed animals. But in some ways it’s a lot harder. It’s kind of frustrating not being able to raise your hand and answer a question or make comments about stuff you know and can’t ask teachers questions. No way is the “best way” to be schooled.
Mariah on June 2nd, 2009 - 1:49pm
Hey there! I am also homeschooled along with the 60 others. I agree that this episode didn’t really do a great job of showing what homeschooling is really like. And I unlike most homeschoolers have gotten the chance to go to public school, I went in kindergarten and I even go part time to the middle school here. But I disagree with Katie, in homeschooling, you CAN ask the teacher questions and she can explain things better when there are fewer kids in the class.
Gabriela on June 2nd, 2009 - 5:37pm
I am homeschooled and I thought that this episode was not a good example of what homeschoolers are really like. I have tons of friends and our family goes lots of places. I definately know about public school unlike Esther in the episode. thanks
Anikin on June 2nd, 2009 - 5:53pm
That episode was totally unreal! I`m a home schooler and I know lots of stuff!!
I think that episode was pretty offensive to most home schooler, and that most home schooled people that posted mesages would agree.
I think adventures in odyssy is not that bad.
HOME SCHOOLING IS FUN!

It was great. I have been Home schooled for as long as I have lived. Sometimes I want to see what a “building school”(a school that is not my home) is like. Thank you for showing this episode.

M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 6:54am
I must say that homeschooling is not what most people think it is! Some people think we stay at home and play or do something, but we don’t! I must agree with Gabriela and others. IT DOESN’T PORTRAY HOMESCHOOLERS VERY WELL! I am homeschooled and will be through highschool and this doesn’t show what we do very well! We work just as hard as any other kid! It isn’t all layed back and just doing as we please! Again, we work as hard as any public schooled kid! Beside these things, it was a good show
M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 6:56am
I also agree with anikin!! Homeschooling is AWESOME!

M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 7:06am
I must agree with Mariah and disagree with Katie. Katie may have been allowed to sit on the couch in a bathrobe with stuffed animals, but I’m not and alot of my HOMESCHOOLED friends don’t either!!! Also, I can ask my ‘teacher’/Mom, as many questions as I need to really understand what I’m learning!
M in Co. on June 19th, 2009 - 7:16am
so sorry for putting in so many comments, but I keep seeing comment that I must say something about! The person who put their name as “K” I want to say something. My mom makes us get dressed and make our beds before breakfast(which is around 7:30)We don’t stay in our PJ’s! I agree, though, with your comment about the curiculum and evolution! I love that too!!! I’m learning about Uniformitarianism and Catastrophism in my science and it has alot to do with it!

How does Home schooling work? Is it hard not having anyone to talk to? Do you have any friends? I have never been interested in home schooling because it sounded kinda lame. But i guess some kids actually enjoy it so it must be kinda cool?
Cassidy on June 20th, 2009 - 10:07am
Home schooling sounds really boring. Do you really just sit in your PJ’s all day hanging out with your brothers and sisters? Do you have friends apart from your Siblings? Let me know

Diane, Cassidy, and Anilese: I’m sorry you all feel that way! IT IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK!!! We (atleast in my family and the 10+ homeschool families I know!) do not just ‘sit around in our PJ’s’. It is saddenning that people think that why. It’s definetely NOT boring or lame! We have alot of people to talk to. My homeschool group has a ‘Presentation Day’ every month where kids can come up and give a presentation on something they’ve learned or something. It is not ‘as bad as it sounds’. To me, it
Natalie on June 23rd, 2009 - 6:48pm
HOMESCHOOLING ROCKS! I am homeschooled along with my two brothers. And we DO NOT just sit around in our pajamas all day. And I belong to a homeschool group so I have lots of friends that we get together with all the time! I like to homeschool because it is always exiting and its NOT BORING. It is the most fun thing in the whole world! And I dont know why some people think it sounds boring or lame. Because it is the best school you can go to in the whole world!!! I LOVE HOMESCHOOLING!
M IN cO. on June 24th, 2009 - 2:14pm
doesn’t have anything that sounds ‘bad’.
Grace: I have been homeschooled all my life. I am so ‘passionate’ about it because I can learn about God in school, and I can learn about Creation correctly. Also, I can really talk to my Mom about a subject that I’m having trouble with until I really understand it. I want people to know that homeschoolers learn just as much as public-schoolers do.

Justin S. on June 28th, 2009 - 8:56am
I was homeschooled for 5 years, and I agree that this episode doesn’t truely capture homeschooling. When my sister and I were homeschooled, we had to start at a specific time, do all our work, be dressed, and in general, we had to keep to rules that most schools have.
And I like the mom’s comment in the episode, “We don’t offend easily.” I met many people in my new school who thought that homeschoolers were anti-social, which is untrue.
lad on June 28th, 2009 - 11:26am
Homeschooling is great and I have tons and tons of firends!! And I do tons of school!
Hosanna on June 28th, 2009 - 1:01pm
I totally think AIO should make more episodes on homeschoolers. There are a lot of homeschoolers out there and i don’t think it’s right that you guys only do public school kids. but other than that i LOVE Adventures in Odyssey!!!! I’ve been listening to it for years!! Keep up the great work!
p.s. i’m homeschooled and i LOVE it!!!!!!
trish on June 28th, 2009 - 1:12pm
Obviously, this episode did not portray the homeschooling family accurately – BUT, kudos on the Shepard family episodes for trying to fix this problem. I always appreciate how Aubrey and Bethany interact with their parents, and with public school kids; I think it is much more accurate… Does Aubrey still go to public school, or did her parents take her out? I know that she was put in public school during the novacom saga… not sure if she still is…
Mel on June 29th, 2009 - 8:35am
I liked the show, but I want you to do another one on how homeschooling is fun!! We work on our own and if we need help we ask for it. I try to get done before lunch. And in the show she did school all day. I didn’t think it was exactly like a homeschooling family. I LOVE AIO and I hope you get new ones out soon!!

I loved that Episode. I can’t say that I have never thought something else would be better. I was home schooled for more then five years. But now i am in a christion shool. at first it was not what i expected but now it is a lot better. I loved it when roben got that cat from the tree. If one of our cats got stuck in a tree it would be so sad. We have too cats jessie and chase. jessie has been with us for more then six years. Chase has been with us for around five years. We love them both.

I already wrote in this blog but I want to say that Homeschoolers have a better CAT and ACT average. I agerr with Elon,Carter and Mel. WE DO NOT STAY IN OUR PAJAMAS ALL DAY AND WE HAVE GOTTEN DONE BEFORE 11:00 and once we get our workdone we are Done. Next time that you make a homeschooling episode get a homeschooler to help you with it. Then it will turn out a lot better. Thanks I know 5+ homeschool familyes and they agree with me lol Emily

Most of my education has been through homeschool. The main problem with the episode is Robyn’s father saying those wrong comments about homeschool. Like others said you should introduce a homeschool family into Odyssey. And have them interact with the other children of Odyssey. Like another person said I am sure you will be able to get homeschoolers to help you with information on how we interact with other people and have problems of our own.

I would like to say that whoever put their name as, MI N CO, I didn’t see any other comments with that name, so I think you were trying to say something in my name, which is M IN CO, not MI N CO. I am really hoping however, that my assumption is not true, but if it is, I am really disappointed that someone would do this.
M in Co. on July 10th, 2009 - 9:13am
The one who put there name as MI N CO, is 3 comments above this one. I know it is hard to see the difference in name, but there is a difference and I believe someone was trying to make it look as though I took back my previous comments. I must tell you I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT take back my previous comments and I am still VERY proud to be a homeschooler!
Ashlyn on July 10th, 2009 - 1:14pm
I have been home-schooled my whole life. It gets REALLY ANNOYING when people think that home-school kids don’t do anything at all. Yeah, we can do school in our PJ’s, and we get to sleep in a little later, but we work just as hard, if not harder than, the kids that go to public or private school. I learn the same things that other kids do, just in a different way. There are ups and downs to home-schooling and public/private school.
BTW, wearing PJ’s doesn’t affect what we learn:)
Palj on July 11th, 2009 - 2:12pm
I wish you hadn’t made the homeschooled girl seem so ignorant. I’ve only been to a public school once, for two weeks of driver’s education, but I have lots of public school friends and know plenty about it. I also do the same subjects and electives as any other kid, with a rigorous schedule. I would love to see another show about homeschoolers, but I’d like it to be a little more accurate.

Kristen on July 19th, 2009 - 9:14pm
My sister and I (who have also never attended a public school) listened to this episode. It was not quite accurate.
#1. Most homeschoolers are not single children.
#2. We are not dumb. We are actually productive! And we know what a bell is!
#3. Some homeschoolers like rigid schedules.
#4. Whit had never met any homeschoolers!?!
#5. I really hope public schools don’t just hand children instruments and tell them to play a scale!
Just some thoughts. Thanks for trying though

Hi, I’m a homeschooling parent of 4 kids. My family loves AIO. You really learn alot. Growing up I wasn’t homeschooled, but my kids are. So I can look at the picture from both sides. I think that overall yall did a good job on the show. Alot has changed in 20 years. And where back then homeschool wasn’t readily accepted, now it is gaining more ground. I really wish you would try again, with the wealth of info and input available now I think yall could give a better picture of both sides.
mONIQUE on July 24th, 2009 - 9:03am
Nothing beats a failure, but a try. TRY AGAIN, for the sake of all the homeschoolers out there listening to your show. If you had a homeschooling family on the show, we could relate to them. I’m not saying put them in every episode, but every now and then. That way people could see the picture from a different angle. I’ll end on this note. Keep up the good work.

Cassidy, I have many friends besides my siblings. I sometimes stay in my PJs all day, but not all the time. I only have 2-3 friends who are homeschooled. My other friends think I get it easy, which isn’t true. Of course I do wake up later than most kids. The curriculm I use is really hard. Anyway homeschooling can be hard.

I really enjoy homeschooling. Although a lot of people think homeschoolers don’t do any work, but THAT’S NOT TRUE! Like Elisabeth, my curriculum is really hard. But I still love homeschooling.

Does anyone know how to get this episode to play? I’m homeschooled, so I was really curious about what it would say. Our computer doesn’t usually play stuff very good, so I don’t know what to do. So far the only thing I have managed to get to play was the preview to Darien’s Rise. On this episode, when I try to play it it won’t let me hit on the ‘click to play’ button. ?????????????????
Does anyone else have the same problem???????
new hat. on July 31st, 2009 - 2:50pm
Homeschool has made a name fore it’s self, stay in bed, come out when you like in PJ’s, and ya have no friends. But we can change that, other kids think of homeschoolers as the ones in long skirts, full sleeved shirts, and sometimes complete with a dumb stare.
The ones they don’t see are the homeschooled kids that blend in.So speak out!!!! Tell others about homeschooling.

Ok, so I appreaciated that AIO did an episode on homeschooling, but everyone needs to realize that homeschoolers don’t just hang out and get to do fun stuff. I am in a really tough program (where i can get my highschool diploma) and I am “in school” up to 9 hours each day. The work is hard, just like in regular school. I have projects, reports, and midterms just like everyone else. Homeschooling is not just a different way of schooling, sometimes its just doing the work at home.
elisabeth on August 3rd, 2009 - 9:10am
Hey everybody…I keep coming on here and I see all the comments and want to reply. lol I felt like I should say that it’s all based on your opinion. I’ve had fights over why I don’t go to public school with a friend who goes to one. We see things a lot differently. She says homeschooling would be boring, and I say I wouldn’t like public school. I point out that she’s never tried homeschooling and may like it. She points out that I might like public school. Anyway it’s all up to YOU.
elisabeth on August 3rd, 2009 - 9:14am
“Continued” You might like public school and seeing your friends everyday. Or you might like being homeschooled. I still see my friends a lot…anyway you decide which you like better. I’m trying to be better at not getting in fights over my schooling. Just felt like I should say that.

I am homschooled and i am in highschool i think that we homeschoolers have a point. u make us seem like a we arent normal but we are. but this episode first played in 1989 so the outlook on homeschooling was diffrent back then. so us homeschoolers making a big deal over this is not fair to adventures in odyssey. so if any body has any thing to say i would love to see your comments.
GOD BLESS, JESSE

The truth really is:
You never know what home-schooling is like until you are homeschooled.

Ok, part of the cool part about homeschooling is that you may not have as much friends, but most of your friends are all really close friends, instead of just accquaintences.
Also, most of my friends are from my church, so they’re christains. So, no, you don’t get as many witnessing opportunities, but you aren’t in as many awkward situations.

I have lots of friends that home school and go to church.

I have been homeschooled all the way through kindergarten and now I am in high school and still homeschooled..and LOVING it!!I used to think I would like to go to public school, but I changed my mind when I visited one.Oh,and I still have what they call “homework” and I get up early(I never do my school work in my night clothes!Well unless I am sick)and I don’t get finished until about 3:00…so it’s pretty much like public school;then it takes me about an hour or 2 to get my homework done.
Vina on August 23rd, 2009 - 11:13am
Oh and by the way, it would be nice to have some homeschooled families in Odyssey!..just need to work on the view point..because, uh, well, the show was nothing like it really is.
Some people used to think I would be sheltered and would not have any friends…well…that is certainly NOT true. I have friends that are homeschooled and friends that are in a public school. Also, I can pretty much strike up a conversation with anyone…so being homeschooled did not hinder me with that.
Vina on August 23rd, 2009 - 11:14am
By the way, in case you was wondering, I LOVE listening to Odyssey! Keep up the good work!

Do you do your school work in your night clothes? I think that would be fun.” I was always like..”Um..no I don’t wear my bed clothes all day. I prefer to get dressed!” So although some homeschoolers might do that;many do not…

I am homeschooled and I just entered my freshman year of highschool. I went to public school until 2nd grade. I am so thankful for the ability to be homeschooled because there is sooo much junk that goes on in public school. I have many homeschool friends that are very smart and I also have many friends that are in public school that are very smart. Yet I am very thankful 2b homeschooled, and I am thankful for all the people that create Christian curriculums for me and my fellow homeschoolers.
Vina on August 28th, 2009 - 5:06pm
Yeah, the fact that there is so much trash that takes place in public schools is exactly why I LOVE homeschooling. Although I have never attended a pubic school, my friends have told me how hard it is to go there…especially if you are a Christian.
Jenneniah on August 29th, 2009 - 8:48am
I’m homeschooled, but we’re a relaxed homeschooling family. We get up around 9-11(lol) and start after everyone has eaten. I’m 15 and have been homeschooled my whole life, never been in a public school, but I know a lot about them.
JC on August 29th, 2009 - 12:20pm
I think that the fact you guys were trying to show a…different side of homeschoolers was pretty cool, BUT I think you kinda went about it the wrong way. WE homeschoolers aren’t like outcasts of society OR some sort of lie abouts who do nothing all day. I think that you SHOULD try making a better episode involving homeschoolers but before you do, be sure to research.
God Bless,

I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY HOMESCHOOLERS WERE REPRESENTED IN THIS EPISODE. SOME PEOPLE SEEM TO BELIEVE THAT WE DON’T HAVE ANY SOCIAL LIFE AT ALL AND THAT IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF HOW AT LEAST MY FAMILY IS. WE HAVE SO MANY FRIENDS AND WE LOVE TO HAVE EVERYBODY OUT TO PLAY FRISBEE,RIDE ALL OF OUR MOTORCYCLES AND 4WHEELERS ON SOME OF OUR PROPERTY, ETC. WE ALSO HAVE SEASON TICKETS AT A AAA BALLPARK NEAR US! YOU SEE, WE ALL DON’T LEAD A BORING LIFE! LOVING(ALMOST)ALL YOU DO! IVY

I go to school and i HATE it! I would give ANYTHING to be home schooled! Spending 8 hours at my school stinks.I go to
a private christian school and I get way to much homework.
I have a friend that was home schooled but once he came to our school for a year he HATED it. Im sure home school isn’t easy but I’m sure there is less stress. Anyone agree?

Homeschoolers rule. i have done private, public, and homeschool and homeschool is the best one there is. You never get homework, you dont have to get up early and you get done a lot quicker. But this episode did not make it seem like we work hard ( which we kind of dont but hey) and we do (kind of)

Heyy, this is Lynn and I’m homeschooled and in 10th grade. I love Adventures in Odyssey, but this show isn’t really lk how homeschoolers are depicted as though they don’t do anything. (even though sometimes I do stay in my pajamas all day =P)I still work really hard though and do really well. I think that they should have someone who was homeschooled (maybe Jessie’s staff) write an episode. That would be awesome!
Thanx!

I have been homeschooled for all but my sixth grade year and have loved every minute of it. My mom is not at all like the mom in this episode, she makes us do actual school and we don’t have talk times. I think you should make some episodes that have a home schooler and actually consult home schooled kids about them. Have it show their difficulties AND their joys. I would be willing to voice the character or give you helpful information.

It’s amazing how long these posts have kept up.I had been public schooled until this year (grade 11) and I like it. Public school can be rough socially and I did not like learning about evolution in public school. But this year my curriculum is all Christ based and I love it. I couldn’t figure out how to download the episode but I don’t think I want to now that I heard some things. Homeschoolers are smart I knew a girl who was homescooled her whole life she is a grade above what she should be.

I am home schooled. i don’t really like this episode
Connie on September 23rd, 2009 - 11:35am
My brothers and sisters and I are also home schooled. I have to say that this episode was not at all realistic! It seemed like they made the girl look like she did not have to do any work! Only go on fun field trips, I do go on field trips but I also have alot of work. It seems like the episodes are always about kids who go to school. I think that you need to make a new episode about homeschoolers. But first you need to talk to a homeschooler. Thanks! ~In Christ
Sammi-kate on September 23rd, 2009 - 3:04pm
I agree with you 100% Connie! it is Fun to be Home-schooled but there is a lot of work to, i love being home-schooled
because you get to spend time with my family, and being able to help my mom when she needs it. I know i wouldn’t be so close to my family if i wasn’t home-schooled. It would be really cool if you could make an episode with home-schooled children.

eLISSA on September 26th, 2009 - 8:09pm
I found this to be very ‘off’. I am a home-schooler, and I probably cover more subjects in school than public-schoolers. It was a humorous episode, although the home-schoolers seemed to be portrayed as emotional ‘saps’, lol. I find home-schooling to be more interactive, more intense, and more academically awarding than public-schooling, although this is not always the case. Thanks anyway for the episode! I have always loved Adventures in Odessey!!!
eLISSA on September 26th, 2009 - 8:40pm
“Continued” One important thing that this episode missed is the incredible amount of academic achievement that is necessary to excel in home-schooling, because rather than let me ‘pass’ in a subject, my mom will make sure I do my very best. We start school at 8 (in the morning, lol) and I have about three hours of homework a day. However, I play guitar, piano, and I am a high-level figure skater, (double jumps, etc.). I am a complete fashionista and would NEVER wear pj’s all day… EVER! Luv’YA!

I’m homeschooled too and i have never been to a public school in my entire life. But I STILL think they did do it a little rudely. I still have a school that \i send assingments to and teachers. \i wish Odyssey had more homeschool families, the the Shepherds aren’t good examples because Aubrey is rude and it doesn’t show the true benefits of homeschooling.
baylie on September 27th, 2009 - 5:44pm
I just read Connie, she is so right! They did not show it the correct way. I do a lot of work, and it is all approved by proffesional teachers. I have also been in an advanced program quite often
JULie on September 28th, 2009 - 3:55pm
They need to do an episode that shows who we really are as homeschoolers, not just an episode of who they think we are.We aren’t just a bunch of un-educated kids.We usually are smarter than them to.

I love, being homeschooled, and I agree with Mary, Elissa Julie, and Lydia. So many children are missing out the blessings, of being homeschooled!

Abrianna on October 5th, 2009 - 12:36pm
I have been home-schooled for four years. I would also enjoy more current episodes about a home-schooled family! Possibly a girl, her older brother, and sister. I also think we are smarter than you portrayed us to be, and we actually do book work!:) We rarely go on field trips or just sit and talk before school. I loved Whit’s idea to write down all they did that day. I thought the chocolate malt parts were funny. I don’t believe it was a flop, but next time maybe do research.:) I LOVE AIO!!!!!!

I have been homeschooling all my life and I love it! I do not want to go to any other type of school. I enjoy schooling just were I am. At home. You can be with your family, learn about God and creation instead of evolution, and there are many other wonderful things about homeschooling that you could never find in a public school. Its nice to here stories about home homeschoolers, and I wish there were more. I also wish there were families in Odyssey that were homeschooled.

I work just as hard as my public and christian school friends. I did’nt like how on the show you made it look like we don’t know anything about public school. It kinda bothers me how people think that. Anyway I LOVE Oddysey either way and have listen to everysingle one and own like half of them. I love you guys!!!

My mom homeschools me.I really like it. Kids probably think that we get out of school early, that does happen sometimes, but rarely. Also people think that every day is half day that is not true. The words ”snow day” does not exist in our school vocabulary! I think that earnest homeschoolers work just as hard or harder than public schoolers.

I homeschool to, but I went to public school for kindergarten, grade 2,3,5, and 7. In grade one I went to a private school, and grade 4,6,8 and now grade 9 have been homeschooling years. I have lots of friends who homeschool and who go to public school. All my homeschooling friends including my self have daily schedules that include as much if not somedays more work than is done in public school.

I also find that when I go to school I am just re-taking what I took the year before if I homeschooled the prior year. I also take online courses as well as just having text books. I prefer homeschooling to public school, because I find I learn more, and have more fun doing it.

I am homeschooled along w/ my older sister and 2 younger brothers. I also have a sister who is 1& 1/2. I went to
a christian school my K4,K5,and half of my 1st grade year.
Then I homescooled the rest of that year. (We moved twice
in those 6 months!) Then when we settled down in a house beside the church where my dad felt like
God was calling him to be the pastor, I attended another
another christian school. (cont.)

beth on December 2nd, 2009 - 5:30pm
I am homeschooled and this episode is not a very good one. Just because we learn differently some times is not a reasone for some people to say we are different. Most of the smartest kids I know are homeschooled.
ANONYMOUS on December 7th, 2009 - 6:16pm
I agree with — I was in private school for a few years, but in homeschool it is anything but personal one on one with your parent. My mom goes to law class and I learn for myself. A lot of homeschoolers are different, so I think AIO made a wise choice not to put homeschoolers in Odyssey.

I love odyssey so much!!! Being home schooled for a few years I don’t think that there is anything wrong with this episode. It just shows that we do things differently. Who says going to a local fire department cant be educational.
Thanks,
Maddy

I am home schooled and we are nothing like the girl in this episode was. I certainly know what a bell is. I think that this was not one of Odysey’s best episodes. We have plenty of friends!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Mary I come from a family of 7 I have hoeschooled forever and I love it I would never want to go to a public or private school. I don’t have antthing against people who do go to school I’m sure they like it.
One more point is that a lot of homeschooled kids are able to get out and do a lot more then kids who have to go to school.
Keep up the good work we (my family and I) love your shows!
Hannah C. on January 5th, 2010 - 7:51pm
i think that episode was a horible example of homeschoolers!
#1. we don’t say stuff like “look at all the people!” when we see a lot of kids
#2. we have seen an instument before, i even play the trombone and piano.

I am also homeschooled .I’ve been homeschooled sone kindergarden(now I’m in 7th grade).Me ,my 2 sisters and all 11 of my cousins are all being homeschooled. And homeschoolers are not like Esther in “You go to school where?”I know how to play some instruments( I play guitar & piano),and I know what crowds of kids look like(I’ve been to L.A. County Fair and seen LOTS of kids.)
And I agree Mary ,lydia .
katrina on January 30th, 2010 - 6:17pm
I am homeschooled, and personally, I think it’s awesome. This show makes public schoolers assume that we don’t ever do anything. Well, I have a desk, I DO play with big groups of kids, and this show makes Esther seem like she is sort of stupid. Homeschoolers are NOT antisocial and don’t stay home all day! I think Esther acts like she has never heard an orchestra before.
Meg on January 31st, 2010 - 6:27pm
I am homeschooled to, and i think that even though we SEEM secluded to the world, we we most certainty are not. we still participate in sports and other things. and we still know about whats going on in the world. We homeschoolers also know how public schools work. I liked the show though, I LOVE Odyssey! and yes, we do get around a lot of other people some times, sometimes hundereds. so we are not awed by the amount.

Ryn on February 17th, 2010 - 2:10pm
I have to say all in all that this episode is rather offending. First of all, it’s not like homeschoolers are so isolated that they never see other kids, learn about sports, or musical instruments. Homeschooling is another way of life; not some sort of prison.
I know that the person who wrote this episode knew nothing about us, but I have to say I am still rather offended.
Ryn on February 17th, 2010 - 2:12pm
Oh one more thing! I loved the thing about Andy Serkis at the beginning!
Priscilla on February 17th, 2010 - 4:51pm
I’m homeschooled too and I agree with Dawn and Mary, you should do another episode about homeschoolers. On a usual day I start with prayer, then go to math, secondly english, take a break, move on to art, and have lunch. Then we do history, then science, and finally, piano lessons.
hannah on February 20th, 2010 - 9:59pm
that was a horrible episode! if our life was like Ester’s we wouldn’t have anything to “talk” about to our mom, and we wouldn’t go on field trips with just two people. When we see a lot of kids we don’t say stuff like “look at all the kids!” we probably have seen way more kids than at the school. Most of us play an instrument, and we wouldn’t say somthing like “they’re all SO beautiful!, I want to play them all!” that’s just cheesy. And we don’t sound like our nose is pinched, we sound normal.
Ryn on February 22nd, 2010 - 7:47pm
Hannah,
you had a lot of the same reasons I had about this episode! It makes homeschoolers look like they don’t do anything or know anything other than what happens at home! And why would homeschoolers not know about instruments or never see big groups of other kids?~Ryn
Abbie on February 23rd, 2010 - 12:44pm
i agree with hannah, we sound normal. and if you want to meet one of us too see how we live, you probably alredy met one of us, we don’t have painted on our foreheads “we are homeshcooles!” we look like a normal kid.
Here’s a tip for publicschooles: Don’t think we are some kind of road side atraction, because we are not.
I like AIO but i completly dislike this episode and i am very offended.

Abbie,
Oh, and btw Focus on the Family, thanks so much for these blogs! It’s really cool to be able to talk w/ other kids!~Ryn
I agree w/ you! We’re not like, odd or something. Our way of living is a bit unusual, but no way are we some sort of strange attraction people should look at and say, “wow they’re really weird”.
To the public schoolers: please don’t believe that all homeschoolers actually live this way!

1. I’m not lazy
2. some home schoolers are though (I KNOW SOME!)
3. I do school 8:00-3:00 and im very athletic so I do lots of sports volleyball 3:15-5:15, basketball 6:00-7:30 and softball 7:30-9:00 all with public schoolers! And they think it would be cool to be home schooled and i think it would be cool to be public schooled though some ppl don’t even know the same facts i do! HOME SCHOOLERS ARE SMART! Public schoolers don’t learn some of the major facts that “we” do!

honestly i prefer going to a school. my sister and i both used to do home schooling and it was so boring. I go to a private school now and it is much betta. for me anyway. the only reason i kinda enjoy school is because of friends, and at home your only friends are your family. not that its a bad thing but sometimes you need to hang with different people.

I used to be homeschooled and now i am ready for public school. Everybody is different in what they want to do with there life. It doesnt matter what others say but it only matters what God says. I dont understand how people find this episode offensive. I was homeschooled and i did not find it offensive at all. And adventures in odyssey does have episodes about homeschooled families and there problems. I forget what they are called but they have them. So dont be angrey at them
Thanks:)

Hey again! Good comments you guys! I would like to say again that homeschoolers are not dumb and not all homeschoolers do school in their PJ’s. (I certainly don’t!) I’m in 8th grade, going into 9th and I have been doing school from 9 A.M. to about 4 P.M every day recently. I’m as busy as any public schooled kid. Now, I’m nott trying to hurt anybody! Public schooled kids aren’t better than me or worse, we just go to a different school. I’m not antisocial and I even have public schooled friends!
M In Co on May 25th, 2010 - 3:27pm
I just wish that people would think a little more before they jump to conclusions about homeschoolers. I totally agree with Noah. We aren’t isolated or anything like that. And we do know what different sports are! Lots of homeschoolers do them, whether with a homeschool group or, like my brother, through the park and recreation my city has. No one is any better than another, we just are educated differently!

I think people don’t quite understand homeschoolers. Its not at all easy. Ester’s mom was right. it’s not for everyone. It’s hard work and sometimes it’s hard to have your mom/dad as your teacher all the time. Please don’t get me wrong. I love AIO. We’ve listened for a very long time. I thank God for giving us AIO. I have homeschooled all my life, and I never ask my mom if I could go to school. My best friend is homeschooled, so we can still do assignments together. God has truly blessed me with all my friends being christians. My Dad, however, is not Jesus’s child yet, but he listens and enjoys Adventures in Odyssey during long car trips. He especially loves Wooten. Adventures in Odyssey is truly a blessing for my family and I. Thank you SO much!!!! (Vancouver Canucks/Adventures in Odyssey FAN!!!)

Home schoolers are not any dumber, or smarter than regular school kids. I DO believe that most of them ARE better behaved. Homeschoolers ARE NOT isolated, yet, they are protected by “The Fasions”. Homeschoolers do not “act a certain way” or “listen to a certain music”. They use their own mind. I’m NOT saying that school kids are controlled mindlessly. I am just trying to point out that most kids try to “fit in”. I may sound negative, but I am truly not trying to. TOO BE CONTINUED.
Tamara :) on June 23rd, 2010 - 2:42pm
CONTINUATION. Half of my friend go to school, but they are just as polite as anybody. It really depends on the person. I have expierienced “Summer School” and, even I have to admit that I was tempted to dress like the other girls. Still, I do prefer homeschooling over school. At least I think. I do my homework from 9:00 – 5:00. Unless I have a big project, I might work late. Sorry I tlk so much. I just like making a point.
P.S. I agree with most of what NOAH said.

By the way, I am just going to tell you that homeschoolers DO go on field trips with like… 20 other kids. We go to museums, and businesses. All the other kids I go with are from my homeschool group. We are all homeschooled, and meet @ a church. There, we have different age groups, and do gym, science, art, and history. It’s tons of fun, and it’s only about 2-3hrs. Plus, some of my friends are there. My best friend goes to a different homeschool group. :0

Okay, so homeschoolers who have never been to public school do know a little about public school. I have been homeschooled since kindergarten and will be a sophomore in the 2010-2011 school year. I’m not offended by this since the writer was never homeschooled, but I do think that talking to several homeschoolers would have been great! I love AIO, and have listened to it for basically 15 years. Keep up the good work!
