When I was growing up, I loved visiting my grandparents. There was one holiday that we tried not to miss: Thanksgiving. It was extra special because it doubled as my birthday celebration. I have many wonderful memories of those Thanksgivings, as the turkey and pumpkin pie were supplemented by birthday cake and balloons. All of that came to a halt one June morning. A few months after one of our visits, my grandpa passed away suddenly.
Saying goodbye to someone you love is never easy. Even though we know that this life is only temporary, and that eternal life with Jesus will be wonderful and joy-filled, losing a relative or friend still hurts. And usually, it’s completely unexpected and we don’t have the chance to say everything we wanted to say! I didn’t know that the Thanksgiving of my seventeenth birthday would be the last time I saw my grandpa. I was happy that my last time with my grandpa was filled with joy. But there were still a few things that I wished I could say to him if I could see him one last time.
In Darien’s Rise, Anna didn’t know that, when she left the Old Judge’s cottage, she wouldn’t see him again. He died suddenly and without warning, and she was deeply affected by his death.
We all know that life is temporary, but it’s easy to forget that. It should be a motivation not to put off the important things, like telling people how much you care about them and how much Jesus cares about them. We can’t assume that we’ll always have time later to do and say those things. Don’t wait for a better opportunity. Do it today!
What simple things can you do for the people in your life to show that you care, and to tell them about Jesus? Let us know in the comments section below.

Wow Odyssey this is a riske topic, and I’m not going to lie, scary. No one likes the idea that at any moment they could lose someone very special. I wish I could say that whenever I think something good about someone I go right away and tell them, but I don’t. I know I should but it feels awkward doing it. Than again, when does God ever call us to do something easy and within our comfort zone.
Just some thoughts…

heres a simple thing to do to tell others that you care, paste notes that say i love you and Jesus loves you on your on your moms, dads, grandparents, sisters and brothers computers or desks to show them that you care. just a idea but you can try and see if it works.

Wow, this devotional is heavy. When I read this I remembered how the year after my dad moved out it was really hard, which is similar to the writers story of her grandpa dying. Its hard when things change but it always seems to turn out great later.

My Grandma went to heaven just a little while ago and I was in a state of shock. I remembered when she was at my house she was lively and bright and in a couple months she is in a coffin. Treasure the people in your life while they are here. Tell them you love them and apperciate them. Tell them about Jesus and ask them were they will go when they die. I am glad my Grandma went to heaven. Oh and another thing. I can’t listen to Passages… the latest one. I press on it and it plays Break a Leg.

This Oddysee is the coolest! I KNOW relates to the story of David Sual. The writers must based it on that . What do you think?

Three years ago, I lost my grandfather, who had lived with us for five years, a couple of days before Thanksgiving. It was really hard that year. It still is, but the Lord is helping me and my family get through this. I was actually the last person to tell him I loved him. For many years he would just say Thank You. But I feel like the Lord blessed me with him being able to tell me that he loved me. If you are going through a time like this, pray and ask the Lord to help you. Thank you.
